ride quality comparison - hyundai accent

Well, I just got my 48,000k service at Honda, and they gave me an enterprise rental accent for the day (two in my case because they neede more time). I found the accent to be just as powerfull, handles like **** though. But one thing came to my attention. The ride was way better, more comfortable. Going over the same streets in my regular commute I noticed that bumps were not as bumpy. For the past little while i've been wondering whether there was somehting wrong with the suspension in my car. How am I able to tell if there is something wrong with my struts? Every time I go over railroad tracks I have to cringe and "brace" myself for the loud thud i know i will hear.... when i hit a bump I dont get that continous bounce, but it just feels like my car "bottoms out" on small bumps...

Does anyone have the same problem? How can I tell if my struts need replacing?
