Ride Height Issues
I was interested in knowing whether you dudes with lowered 7th gens had issues going over speed bumps pulling in and out of driveways? My desired drop is 1.5 inches. One of buddies with a Mustang GT has a 1.25 in drop and he says his car touches and scrapes almost every speed bump.
Okay first of all- why are you comparing a civic to a mustang? Two totally different cars with different ride hides...
Im lowered 3.5" with a body kit and 19s and I can go almost everywhere... 1.5" is barely a noticeable drop and you will have NO problems whatsoever.

Very good to hear!

I'm being precatious.
I'm from the area which has the worst roads in North America.
Eh- the roads where I am right now hardly classify as roads- more like potholes and **** put together....amazingly, the 19s and body kit are still in tact! Haha
But as a precation Im going to start driving my truck or something soon to school, keep the miles off it and not beat on it. But 1.5" is nothing really, wouldnt stress about it. What size wheels you going with?

holy **** i was just about to search that, I was thinking in class today, Im going to visit a friend at SIU and he mentioned speed bumps, and I haven't been over any after my 1.5" drop, and I was thinkin holy ****, my bumper goin up the driveway is maybe .5" from touching, well the black piece, which is about 1" so the actualy painted bumper part is prolly 1.5"... but enuf babbling, it's nice to hear that I shouldnt have any probs..
is it better to angle it like on an incline or just go over it really slow straight?

for now I'm keeping stock. Winter is coming soon so I'll put on my 14 in steelies on with yokohoma winter tires.
in the summer I was leaning towards 15 by 7 rotas
With a tire with a large side wall close to stock size.
I just ordered a progress rear bar/tie bar with some endlinks. Waiting to see how much duty I'll end up paying on that before I order more expensive stuff like shocks with springs if the customs and duty fees are reasonable( I'm from Canada). I'm set to get Tokico HP's with eibach sportlines or tein stech springs and ingalls camber kit.

I want to lower it more for performance. I want to go even faster on turns. I figured stiffer shocks and lower ride height was going to drastically improve my steering response.

There's a fine line between too low and just right. Don't think that if you have the car on the ground (slammed) that it will handle like an F1 car...cause quite frankly, it won't.
Regarding the speed bump issues - I'm lowered maybe 3" and I scrape everything, but I have nothing but steep hills and 2 foot tall speed bumps in my area. lol

Yeah our roads are horrible. Sometimes your taking such a nice turn at a high speed then all of sudden huge cracks in the road. Its not so plesant.
the reason why your buddy with the stang scrapes everywhere is because his mustang is classed as a "sport" car. sports car have a lower stance (for various reasons). while the civic is an ecno box/family coupe/sedan, it stays high off the ground. a 1.5" drop isnt that low if you as me (and many others). its just a matter how careful you are on the road...
im dropped 2"ish and i can go over almost any driveway with the proper closing in etc etc. if you drop, better get your driving techniques set.
ps, if your riding on stock shocks, they WILL blow eventually if your location has horrible road conditions

i had a 2000 mustang gt, i put some steeda lowering springs on there, without shocks, and i would scrape if i was cruising 45 and hit a small bump, like a change in pavement. this was do to my crappy stock shocks and lower springs. it would bounce a lot.
^^^True, you do scrape sometimes not matter what.
2K2, I really don't know you are able to not scrape with your set up; specially with a 3.5" drop and a body kit. I was lowered before about 2" and would have to be very carefull on speed bumps.
Nindo, IMO the way to go is Sportlines. These springs are great. They won't give you "2-3 inches drop" but will definately give you a better height for speed bumps, about 1.5 inches. As fas as ride comfort and stiffness, I can't complain either. Body roll was greatly reduced as well.

I want performance. I know the civic has a lot of potential. The chassis is nice and rigid. Multi link double wishbone rear. I want firmer shocks and at the same 1.5 inches lower looks cooler. I'm guessing the stiffer lower springs must help a bit as well.
