Upper strut mount probs!!!

I just installed my Tokicos on and when I took my stock struts off and put then on the ground all these round little silver ***** fell out ............ Yes I know what they are they are ball bearings. I didn't know that struts had that most of you guys probably don't either. But this became a serious set back. The struts upper mount has this bearing in it that makes the upper part stay stationary(the part that mounts to the car from the top) and the bottom half the and the rest of the strut move .my bearings busted andspilt out. Also i found that dirt and sand and shizzzz got in them f'en up good. But I called honda and they cost like 44 for the upper mount cuse no one sells replacement bearings!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is each side!!!!!!!!!!. So I called around and got some for 38.00 ant a placed called bapgeon import auto parts. But they were special order. Anyways just to for warn u guys I think they busted from drivin on stock shocks wit lowered springs cuse the spring is shorter than the regular one and it dosent push the botom part of the sturt to the top firmly. So everytime i hit a hard bump or get air from small bumps in my car the bearings have to take the full impact from the jumps. I think that is why it broke. Sayin all this to let u guys no the heads up on this prob.

$18.36 right there

What springs do you have? sounds like some cheapy ones.. most of the good springs are just as long as the stock ones for that reason(so that the springs dont fall out when you jack the car up)

anyways.. when i was changing my springs i dropped one of the bearings and all the little ball bearings went everywhere.. i found every single one of them, cleaned them off, and repacked the bearing with all the ***** and grease and now it works fine.. just sharing my experience with that..

Talking

I was thinkin u could do that cuse they got a rubber seal on the bearings but in my experince wit cars it is better safte than sorry if u just go ahead and replace it and do it right the first time cuse i don't like to look back and say man i should have replaced it the first time instead of letting it mess up now.

Hrmm.. I bought some bearings from my dealer for 24 bucks. It was a special order and took two days. No biggie. Regarding the lowered spring, they shouldnt be shorter in height then the stock spring. If they were, then you may have gotten the wrong set. Reason is, if they were shorter and you jacked up your car, the springs would become unseated.

my neuspeed sports were a tiny bit shorter than stock, but they are so compressed as an assembly with the shock that they cant become unseated. unless you didnt torque them up to spec.

sorry to bring back a thread from the dead, but im just wondering about upper mounts. IF the mount is separated so the bearings come out, then wont the mount be useless? Im trying to figure out a problem my buddy is having with his ride. The spring is skipping around on the perch when he turns his wheel. I though at first it was maybe because the upper centre bolt wasnt tight enough, but i did it as tight as possible with an impact and then torqued it down.
any suggestions on what might have gone wrong? Only one side of the mount would push down far enough to see the ball bearings, so im guessing he needs a new one?
thanks
