well i installed them today, and i get a really nice metal to metal sounding contact comming from the front end, when i turn the wheel side to side.
this is when driving really slow.

Rep Power: 256 i have the exact same problem. i plan on calling TEIN tomorrow during business hours. I had a tech question with them before and called, and they were rather helpful. I have the same noise.... i am almost 100% positive that it is the spring coil gaining friction against the adjuster, both being metal. when it has too much force, the spring unwinds and it pops back into place.
you will also notice that if the it pops making a left, the car will pull left until you pop it back and vice versa.
again.... call TEIN. i am going to.

Rep Power: 0 1) You Definetly need 2001 honda civic upper mounts and bearings.. Get them from honda.. you can't go wrong..
2)In the rear.. did you cut the dust boots.. cause if you don't as you go over bumps you will hear this annoying screaching sound..
We just installed teins in my ride and 2 other 7thgens a month ago so yeah here are a couple of the problems that we ran into..
CALL TEIN.. they are sooo helpful

Check the top part of the suspension in the front. The deal with the suspension systems is when you turn your wheel, the whole shock turns along with it. If the top cap is not installed properly, then there will be metal to metal up top. When you turn, the metal to metal part will cause a screeching noise... Try reinstalling the front and follow the directions tein specified. Should work. We had that problem with a civic here and we just backtracked and it took us right to that top hat on top of the front shocks.

Rep Power: 0 i just got mine installed yesterday by our local shop, when i went to pick it up he said that you gonna hear a metal to metal sound because the system has steel bushings and not rubber like the stock ones. He said that he can modify it by i think changing these bushings with the stock ones or something like that, but he said that he's still not sure if thats the case. i only hear the sound when i'm going 45 mph or less 50+ i dont hear any sound.

Even TEIN website indicates that an 01 upper strut mount is needed for 02-up Civic application.

Yo Gucci Daddy.. I'm not sure what the guy at your local shop is talking about.. if you have both the front upper mounts and bearings (off of a 2001 civc) The Front should be fine..
IS the noise coming from the front or the rear of your ride..?
Because what happened to mine were.. for a few days there was a slight metal to metal sound (Thought it would go away) and mine only sounded during 40km and less but thats only because as you go 80km/hr + you get more road noise and it drowns the squeeking sound out...
But after a few days going over bumps and etc.. it will get louder.. loud as hell.. Try going to the rear of the car and push down (as if you are checking the stiffness of the rear coils.. see if you hear the sound),.. Cause the sound should be the Coilover spring rubbing against the plastic dust boot cover... just cut to modify so no more rubbing)..
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just as long as you have the 01' civic upper mounts and bearings.. and you modify the rear dust boots.. THERE should be no problems.. unless the shop did not install them properly..

Dret, the tie-rod goes in like the OEM does, correct? Unlike this coilover that I know, the tie-rod end needs to be inserted from the bottom.
thanks.

Rep Power: 0 I just called TEIN today ( 9:41am PST) and asked about the upper mount on the TEIN Basic. I told them I have an 04 Coupe and Im calling on behalf of the upper mount issue. Turns out that it has been fixed for the shipment of this month. So, my 04 will not be needing an 01 upper mount.

I just spoke to Anthony, a tech at Tein. He told me that the reason why the 2004 civic will fit the tein basics no problemo is that honda decided to go back to the 2001 uppermount for 2004!
So the uppermount issue only affects 2002 and 2003 civics. Tein has resolved this by shipping the uppermount in questions, with every shipment.

Rep Power: 285 Think those gold plates are the spring seats, they go on top of the whole assembly right before the bearings and base mount.
You can check it out in the Tein Installlation doc: http://www.tein.com/ti/inst/ka22u.pdf

Rep Power: 0 i've got the D2 coilovers and when i go over a bump the rear sqeeks as it goes up the bump and then as it goes down the bump. This is due to the rear dust boot? If so does anyone have a picture of what exactly needs to be cut. Thanks
