need recommendations on shocks

ok, i have a 1.5" drop with neuspeed sport. i have a kaminari body kit which is currently not installed and an SPC camber kit thtat i haven't installed.

what is the best wau to improve the ride quality with my current setup? i have read some threads and are down to these options:

1. koni yellows: i heard problems with installation - cutting required
2. tokico blues: just came out - do not have adjustable dampers
3. tokico illuminas: not yet available

what would give me the best ride? when do the illuminas come out? how much? should i wait for them? thanks a lot to everyone!

If you want to keep the Neuspeeds, then I'd say go with the Konis. I haven't yet ridden in a car with Tokicos (besides the ones that came on my Hayames) so I can't speak for the Blues. My experience with a lowered Civic sedan on Neuspeed Race and Konis was a stiff ride, but it didn't shake you up in the car as much.
The Hayames I have (yes, sheizen they ARE full coilovers) are pretty stiff, so the ride will be rough and firm. My experience with all coilover-dropped cars that I've ridden in is about the same...it's like riding in a shopping cart. If you decide to save up for coilovers, even the softest settings on the adjustable damper may still be too rough, depending on what your idea of the "best ride" is.

The Tokikos will give a softer Ride, but the Konis are a better performance damper. If you have no need for a High performance Damper, then get the Tokikos.

Tokicos have traditionally had softer dampering then Konis. They tend to design dampers for the street Vs track/High performance applications. Most people would never be alble to tell the difference between a Koni Yellow or a Tokico Illumina on the street (Except that the Konis are a bit firmer) but if you are trying to get the absolute best handling out of your car, Koni is the way to go.

What about Bilstein and KYB ? Are these companies focused on OEM replacements only ? I think they both have damping adjustable models of shocks too. Somehow I feel the inserts for the konis in front suck. If konis came with a full replacement, I would say they would have easily dominate the market for the 7thGen.

Bilstein makes good shocks, for both performance and street applications. they tend to be pricy though. I'd avoid KYB for all but street applications, sure they make an adjustible shock, but I don't know of any one who is runnig KYBs at the national Tour (SCCA Solo 2 events). I know of a couple of racers that have told me to simply steer clear of KYB in general. I'd say that if you are looking for a Damper for the street thats better then stock then KYB will work. Actually Tokico Blues would be Perfect for most peoples needs on the street, you dont need adjustible dampering if you arn't racing. Sure its nice to fiddle with, but how many people who have adjustible shocks actually change the dampering on them with any regularity?

as far as Inserts sucking.. well I've found that most problems regarding inserts deal with improper instalation. (Koni makes Inserts for just about all strut based suspensions). True if they were full replacements they would be easier to install, but then they would cost more (One more thing for people to complain about) and there would be a good chance that they wouldnt be out yet... I have no problems with an insert, as long as its installed properly.
