removing koni shocks (front)

so i installed my shocks a few months ago, and there were fine. i went to my buddys shop to put some different springs on. his boss was looming arround, and he didn't want me in the shop at all. so after i got my car back, i went to adjust the shock, and i found that the adj. peg had been "stripped" by the under-washer. it looked like some one had hit the top of the shock with a hammer, or the shock got dropped on the top. anyway, it took a few weeks, but eventually the shock has lost pressure and it is hell driving above 60 mph.

...so they bought me a new shock for screwing the old one up.
...so...has anyone tried to get the shock out of the strut housing? is this possable?
the bottom bolt "pulls" the shock into the strut. i might be able to use a press, but i doubt it.

any ideas short of buying another strut from honda?

thanks

I have Koni's also, but havent had the pleasure of having to remove the cartridge from the strut housing. However I did read about a guy over at clubrsx.com who used a 3/8" socket extension and a rubber mallet to pound out the cartridge. I think it'll work if your careful and dont ruin the bolt threads. It might be easier to call Koni and ask them whats the best method this.

my only suggestion would be to maybe put the nut on the end of the threads and bang it on the floor. maybe use some wd-40 on the housing(just make sure to clean it out when you reinstall)

I had to replace mine a few times what i did was i took of the bottom bolt and found a bigger bolt that fit in the hole but was a bit bigger than the thread and hit it with a hammer a few times it came right out. by the way email koni waranty and tell them that oil is comming out from the adjustment screw and the strut is loosing pressure they will replace it.
