Hey,
I will be looking into modding the family '04 Civic soon. What routes can I take suspension wise? I would like to go with something that will make the ride smoother and more like a luxury sedan, but don't want to feel disconnected from the road. Any ideas?

I would say if you want it to ride more luxorious, go for some better shocks. Although, basically all we have are koni's. I wouldn't go with coilovers for a "luxury" ride, unless you are sure you can get some spring rates that are not too high.

I have yet to try koni's on my car, but I think I will go that route with stock springs, to give a more controlled ride, but still compliant with rough roads.

I am somewhat of a car n00b, but I've heard of things like struts, sway bars, etc that help stiffen the chassis. Would those contribute to what I am looking for? If so, what companies should I look at?

If you want a luxourious ride decrease the spring rate, get some decent shocks, koni's on their softer settings will probably work. get 14" rims with some big side-walled tires and keep them a little underinflated. remove your rear sway-bar (small but noticeably smoother ride). or you could've just bought a car that fits what you're looking for.

Ok man...suspension really has to be "in the eye of the beholder", so to speak.

1) What are your goals? AutoXing, Road Racing, Daily Driver that handles better than stock, or a friggin' CADDY??? lol

2) How much $$$ do you have to play with? Suspension can get EXPENSIVE!

3) Are you going to be doin' the work yourself? If you're paying for the install(s) it'll get even MORE expensive.

4) How long will you have this car? If it's only a short period of time (1-2 years) I'd wait on the BIG suspension mods (i.e. TEIN's or JIC's).

Ask yourself thos questions and come back with the answers. There are PLENTY of us that use our suspension in different ways and ALL have different set-ups....so we CAN be helpfull, IF you give us something to work with...ya kno?

Be prepared to pay up to $1000 for a set of full coilovers. It's the only way to go for what you're wanting. I heard the B&G are good, and there are some new D2 brand suspension. There are a few reviews on the site.

ground control and koni struts are a basic set up which most of us have. me personaly i think they suck but then again look where i live all i see is potholes so now i got an interior that rattles due to bumpy roads. no matter what you do there is no way your gunna get a luxuary ride from a 7th gen civic with out spending a lot of cash.

just get a fart muffler and you'll be pimpin fart fart fart

My family chose this car because of our always pleasant experience with Japanese cars and this one was just within our budget. This car is a daily driver and we plan on keeping it until it doesn't work. I plan on doing all the work myself. I've never really worked on cars so it'd be a good experience to learn a lot. Money wise, I haven't really thought much about it, but it has to be approved by my mom (since she and my brother mainly drive this car). My best guest is that $1000ish should convince her if the benefits are noticable.

My plans for this car is to keep the look completely stock while just having performance mods. Besides, I'm not the one driving this thing anyways.

If more than one person is driving this car, I highly suggest not modifying that much. One thing that will help is Koni Shocks. I personally suggest is the Eibach Prokit and Koni shocks. That will only lower about an inch and will provide more stability. that way everyone is happy.

yah and if you're not looking to modify it much i dont think sacrificing the warranty on a new car is worth it just for a little smoother ride.

For a smoother ride, just get shocks. Keep the stock springs (they are pretty soft) Those AGX shocks would be softer then the Konis.

The agx isn't out yet. They are still on order. He was talking about the GR-2 Non adjustables.

GR-2 should help. But I suggest you wait til warranty is over though.
