MY review on hayame coilovers!
MY review on hayame coilovers!
well... i finally got my hayames in today! i must say a few things...
1) i have an 03 and it was the largest pain in the *** trying to get the two front bolts on i had to go looking for slightly smaller bolts, couldnt find any ,then took them to my friends shop to have the holes drilled larger... hayame should definately correct this, i dont think it would be too hard to make slightly larger holes for 03's and up...
2) why is there no nut on them for the brake line? i think thats pretty ghetto, but anyway..,
3) the "coating" on the fronts is a waste of time it peels off like old paint on a fence if you even touch it it flakes off all over... i do hope they hold up my buddy is getting his tein ss in in a couple weeks so ill have something to compare to, others ive seen have teins and they dont flake apart
lease: that being said...
they are awesome.... i thought i drove the **** out of my car before, now its no contest. i just need some falken azenzis now... i installed them with the lowest drop possible, front and back w maybe half an inch preload... seems pretty good but i think i definately need them stiffer, so tomorrow ill add more preload i guess, but it rides really nice. i tuck a little tire in the back w 215/45/17s and a lot of tire in the front -scraaaape- , so theres definately no "gap" issues like i was afraid there might be, just need to firm em up a bit so it doesnt land on the inner fenders so much
feels more like a go cart now
AND TO ANYONE WHO READS THIS AND THINKS "ILL JUST GET SPRINGS" like i used to...
lease: DONT - JUST GET COILOVERS! this has probably been said a thousand times and ive read it and thiought "cant be taht much different" IT IS i now firmly believe, just like everyone told me lowering springs are definately a waste of time, ive tried skunk2, tenzo, sprint, h and r, and the car just bangs along the road sloppily RUN AND GET COILOVERS AS SOON AS YOU CAN my only concern w the hayames is they seemed kinda cheap w the flaking off stuff , wrong size holes , no welded nut for brake line, so ill see how they go compared to tein ss when my buddy puts em in i know there really good... but for now the hayames do seem a good deal for the price, i definately enjoy my car 110% more!...
ill update the pics in my rides prolly tomorrow...

-slammed- i have em in now, but in the "full review on hayames" thread i posted my spring #s they were the same as mex's, so they were different than your spring #s and i dont have the hayame stickers on the rears either...
and i just gotta say suspension should always be the 1st mod! seems i cant take corners fast enough...
-gary- yea ive tried the konis w h and r springs and it wasnt too bad, but i found they seemed to wear out pretty quick and i didnt like how the konis werent a short shock, but that routes ok if u dont want it reallllllly slammed but i like my cars to scrape over everything lol...

so um... are you saying.. that all 03 civics, will need a bigger hole drilled, to fit the one bolt?
and do yopu drill the hole in the hayames or the car? cuz you said hayame should make bigger holes, please explain

Looks good. I like the drop. I would have mine a tad bit higher, but that's because the roads suck where I live and I like to still be able to go up steep driveways.

i just have a sub box w 2 12s in my trunk the rears clunk a little on mine so im gonna give it a little more preload (it has just enuough right now for the spring to not move around) and see if that helps i hope it doesnt raise the height at all? and since i put more preload on the front it doesnt rub but the ride is realllll stiff (1"and a bit preload) so im gonna soften the front .5 inch raise it .5 inch and see if that helps (my inner fender wells are cracked from the rubbing from 20 mins of driving when i first put em on all the way down and next to no preload) so..... im gonna sell my rims to get some 18s w +45 offset (right now i have 17s w +40 offset and 215/45 tires) and get some 215/35/18 tires that should give me no rub cause my buddy has 215/35/19s on an el and gets no rub w +47 offset..
i wish someone made a crazy suspension that ACTUALLY lowered it 4-5" ALL THE WAY AROUND! not 4 in the front and 3 in the back o well...

Unless you mean you don't want to drive your car anymore.
I just got mine and installed them on Sunday. I left them for a couple days to settle a little then today fine tuned all 4 corners and got my ride just how I want it. I'm keeping the rear a little higher so I don't scrape with passangers or a load in my trunk. The ride is tight and took a little getting used to. (I had Tein springs with stock shocks before and my shocks were shot.) There's no clunking or bumping noises like their used to be, and my girlfriend likes the "go-cart" feel. I'll post some pics in "my ride" as soon as we have some sunshine here. Yeah the coating does peel, but hey that's no big deal to me as long as they work and last. (I have a 2001 Sedan and they fit with no drilling or anything.)
sweet review. I might look into getting these sometime soon cuz my springs are really starting to bug me. Everytime i hit a bump its like my wheels are gonna fall off. Anyone know if the hayames are stainless steel?? Dont wanna get them if the salt in the winter is going to kill them.
