Are my Konis dead or are my Coilovers dead?

Well when I drive over a bump or a huge dip or something...my back drivers side Strut and Coilover bottom out..it's like a huge bang....and I'm not even that low....Soo my Koni Yellows are at about 65-75% stiffness....So if I go softer will it reduce the bottoming out or make it worse?....Cuz ****...it pretty bad....cuz I don't know if it's my Ground Control Coilovers or Koni Yellows that are toast....So what should I do..cuz I don't want to have to install my old rear struts....I hope my yellows aren't ****ed...
So please tell me what I might be able to do so that they don't bottom out..and it's raised as high as the Coilovers will allow me.... So if I stiffen them up will the bottom out less..but that will put more stress on the strut.....

sounds like your koni's are shot... try putting them as stiff as they go. softer will only make it worse...
try pushing down on that corner where you think its blown. if it rebounds and goes to its normal position after a couple bounces than its fine. if it bounces more than its not..

hm, adjusting the shock isnt going to do much, it may slow it down a bit, but it sounds like you have too much weight in the back for the springs to stop you from botoming out. a friend of mine had that problem when he had a bunch of subs in the back, He called up Ground control and traded in his rear springs for about $50 (now he has 500 LB/in springs in the back)
but any way, the point is if you are bottoming out then you are too low for that given spring rate. so either raise the car a bit, or get harder springs.

The coilovers are as high as they can go....*sigh*....so Ground Control will hook me up with new springs?.....cuz I don't think the Koni is shot....I just bottoms out....

I know ground controls are soft but i dont think they're that soft... I didnt even bottom out on the rear with a 2.5" drop on stock shocks. The front however is a different story

No weight in the trunk....at all....I don't think it's the Strut...cuz well Koni struts are tough as ****....but if it is the strut..how could I tell that its toast???
See the only side it bottoms out on the most is the back left (drivers) and if I go over a big hump..then sometimes both sides bottom out....I'm also 200lbs...so I guess that could be a problem...There isn't any leakage that I know of...and it will be such a pain to take it all apart and check to see if the struts are toast....Also if I hit a pot hole it will bottom out forsure...
I will call Ground Control to see what they can do about my springs....and ****...I really hope that I don't have to send my old ones back before I get the new ones in the mail.....also how long does it take to get the new ones ???

I'm just trying to remember, I think I remember this right... didn't Koni rears have issues with the lower perch moving or coming loose?
Is it possible that this happened and so the spring isn't really being compressed by anything? Does it look lopsided when you're just parked?
Oh, and when you call GC for new springs, you're basically just buying another set, you don't need to send them yours, unless you're planning on doing it as a warranty claim for the same spring rates.

Yeah....my Koni did have some issues..the snap ring did break off..but I got that replaced.....Also...it originaly can with the snap ring on the bottom notch...soo I moved it to the top notch to increase the travel rate.....So the "new" snap ring is 1 inch higher than it was when I bought the struts.....
I will try to see about the whole switching idea....that could work.....the only problem I see is that the springs are toast....cuz they were running on blown factory struts...soo that could have craped them....
As for warranty...I still haven't had a chance to call..but I hope to get ahold of them asap..just gotta find my recipt....ughhhhh....
btw: how much do the new springs cost?...cuz the coilover part is still good....although it is kinda mashed near the bottom cuz the coilover part is aluminum...and it kinda bent near the bottom....*sigh*....I just don't get it..my trunk is empty...should I take out my spare tire....

Also....I think that my fronts could but adjusted to firm in the front struts....so then all the shock goes to the back of the car....Could loosing up the fronts help soften the backs compression.....
I think that the springs are gone...cuz springs dampen the initial force (1st compression) struts are there to prevent the rocoil of the spring...so the decompression speed is reduced and the force is dampened.....right?

Konis are single adjustible, meaning that the adjustment only affects the compression stroke of the shock. the rebound is set by koni. and you are right, its the springs job to absorb impacts, its the shocks job to stop the spring from bouncing.
