Rear Anti Sway Bar On Civic HX

I just realized today that the HX doesn't come with rear anti-sway bar, is there anyway to attach one to the car? I tried searching but you can't do a search for anything that is less than 3 characters, so finding a HX specific thread would be very time consuming.

you dont have to include hx. just try searching for sway bar install or diy or something like that. dx's dont have sway bars either and the 01' lx didnt come with one either. i know your going to have to drill holes. not sure what else but i'm thinking endlinks and the 2 brackets.

Yes you will need the brackets, the endlinks, the bar itself, and you will have to drill holes. What size do you want? If you are getting anything bigger than the RSX one then those should come with bracket/holders and get better endlinks than stock (ie. Hotchkis or Grey's). If you want a stock 12mm one, you can buy mine! hehe

Should I get the RSX Sway bar, and then get the progress mounting kit? or just get the whole progress rear sway bar kit?

I don't think the progress mounting kit was made for a 19mm bar. I think it is for a 22mm bar. I would just get the whole progress FRONT and REAR sway bars. If you add just the rear sway bar you will have create alot of over steer.

Since our cars understeer so much, do we want to create some oversteer so they handle more neutral?

We do, but the 20+mm bars create a little too much on their own. The 19mm helps make the car feel more neutral if you have the 25.4mm stock front sway bar. a 20mm might even feel a little better, but 22mm will create too much oversteer and that is why you need to make the front one a little bigger. Stock front is 25.4, progress front is 27, so it is only 1.6mm bigger but it should feel more balanced then just the 22mm rear alone.

I disagree... I disagree a lot. Especially due to the fact that the 22mm bar on a DC5R has the same front anti sway bar as our cars. Do you have a 22mm bar? I do. From my experience it doesn't oversteer enough for my current suspension set-up but I believe on stiffer springs that may be a different story. At any rate, if anything a thicker rear bar would be the one that keeps the car "neutral" for the fact that when the car turns most of the weight is thrown to the rear. The front anti sway bar is thick enough to show even some sign of understeer eventually.

In terms of comfort, the 19mm bar wins. The 22mm bar stiffens up the rear to the point where you can feel the rear suspension over any mistreated part of the road but in turn it gives a car with soft spring rates fun-worthy handling capabilities you can smile about.

You have to realize ,SlammedBlueEM2, that the DC5R also has different spring rates. So that may help compinsated for the Difference in Anti-roll bar sizes (Front to rear). I dont know, I dont konw the spring rates of either the EM2 or the DC5 stock, but I'd be interested to find out.

No I dont have a 22mm bar, and yes i know it comes on the DC5R and the CTR. In fact, I know Ocelaris put one on his Si. I am going by speculation here and knowing the feeling of my current setup. I feel that if the bar was thicker in the back i think the back would kick out. Again, I am running on stock springs and shocks. If i were lowered then maybe it would be different. But again, it all depends now doesn't it? if you lower your car 2.5" and have stiff *** springs and shocks any bar will act different with a lowering of 1.5" and moderate springs and shocks. Comparing a 22mm bar on a dc5 or a ep3 is different due to their weight distribution. Also, the stock 22mm bar is different then the progress bar do the hollow/solid differences. You can disagree because you have the experience. I was stating my projections of what would probably happen.

Grey's DIY

Check out Grey's DIY on a '01 LX.
Like they said, all DX, HX, and '01 LX don't have a factory bar. Grey made a great DIY that showed what's involved.
IMO, the most economical way to do it is what I'm doing now. I bought a used RSX 19mm bar with bushings from Clubrsx. Got it from a great guy named Brock. Those guys update their stuff as much as we do, so there's ALWAYS somebody selling their stock stuff, which is upgrades to us.

Anyway, here's the breakdown:
Bar & bushings from clubrsx $60 shipped.
Holders and bolts from Acura dealer $14
Progress hardware mounting kit from Ptuning $129.90

Total $209.90 not bad.

My bolts and hardware kit are arriving tomorrow, so I'll have it hooked up this weekend.

Please post how it goes, because someone said that the 19mm bar won't work with the progress mounting kit because it's made for a different size bar. BUT you got the bushings that are made for the 19mm bar, so it should work fine, and I have seen the DIY, but thanks again for posting it.

I understand.

I've had my car at various heights with the bar on GCs... which are relatively soft springs. When I had accidentally raised my front suspension far higher than the rear, I thought the rear tire lifted off the ground when I took a sharp turn, lol. (Which wouldn't surprise me... putting the car on a steep driveway does that every time now for some reason.) On the other hand, my car is quite low - stock struts and camber kit. I COULD possibly see if the car would oversteer on stock suspension with the bar - or even with stiff spring rates and a crappy front bar on our cars, but I just can't make it oversteer enough just yet but I'm not worried about that.

So yeah, from my experience and my set-up this is what I have to say. I'm not going to change the bar but once I would like to see how Progress' more rigid and heavier bar performs against the R one. At first I would anticipate it to be like comparing the DC2Rs 22mm bar against it's 23mm bar on the later JDM models. Although I understand the benefit of a more rigid bar, the results between these two were quite neglible in terms of capability although some would say the 23mm bar is just a tad bit better.

Okay, I'm done for now.

It's only the 2001 HX's. The 2002 and up HX's and LX's have rear sway bars. I think?

Oops! I guess HX's are closer to DX's in their features than they are to LX's. It was the power mirrors that threw me off. Yeah, that's it.

You making fun of my ***HX POWER!!!!*** actually, they have Vtec WHILE lx doesn't, TAKE THAT...

(don't bring up the fact that 1.) Vtec does nothing much, 2.) for the HX it does even less (2hp YAY) 3.) The hx's gearing makes it even slower than a dx,lx)
