Ok. A semi-depressing day ahead of me. I just hit 33,400 miles on my car and I'm still running the stock tires.
Ya know? The good ole Firestones?
I told myself over and over again when I first got my car that when the time came for new tires, I would get an entire new wheels/tires set up.
Well, here I am 33,400 miles later, it's Sunday, and I need new tires. However, to my dismay, a lot has happened since I bought my car. I went back to school, bought a lot of stuff I just didn't need, a smokin' computer, a Playstation 2, a lot of fast food, and of course alcohol and cigs.
Anyways. To get off of that tangent and to just make a long story short, I need new tires, but I'm too poor to get wheels right now, so I just need a very sweet replacement for my stockies. Longevity is not a concern with the new tires. I'm looking for a quiet, soft ride, with just about the best performace you can get out of a little whipper of a 14" tire. So. . help me out guys. What do you think? So far I've got my mind on BF Goodies, but that's subject to change. Thanks...

Update: I'm going to go to Sears. I'm thinking I'm going to get the Michelin Pilot XGT H4's. 195/60HR14. 78.99 ea. The only ones that are more expensive are the Sumitomo HTR+. 89.99 ea. I choose the Michelin because they have a 50,000 Mile Warranty in comparison to the 40,000, you get a free Michelin Man bobblehead with the purchase of 4 Michelin tires, plus they are a little bit less $$ than the Sumitomos. Good choice or not? Or should I stock up on the Eagle HPs? Or the Guardsman 4 for $99 special?

Maybe check the marketplace for some stock steelies and tires? Some people put aftermarket wheels/tires on right away and they don't need their stock ones stitting around. I know it's not an improvement over the stock firestones, but at least they'll still have tread on them.
Just a suggestion.

The Sumitomo will probably grip better, your compairing an Ultra High Performance All-Season tire to a High Performance All-Season. The Sumitomo is a grade Higher then the Michelins. Michelins Pilot XGT V4/Z4 or the Pilot Sport A/S tires would be more on par with the Sumitomo HTZ+. BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS would also be a good choice for All-Season Tires, but they tend to be Expensive.
have you checked out Falken tires? the Azenis sports are hard to beat for all out traction(unless you go to an R compound tire) and they are cheep. my 205/50R15's were only $65 each. They make a 195/60R14 too. The Ziex 60,65 series would be a good choice or possibly Sincera SN-706?

have you checked out the potenzas? they have reasonable performance and a paramount lifespan.
if you are looking for a tire in that pricerange that has incredible grip, try looking for dunlop SP 8000's in a size that will fit. I am finding I run out of ***** before i run out of grip, a test run at 55 mph on a 15 mph freeway exit has proven their performance to me.
but they are only rated to last about 15,000-20,000 miles
so its a trade off between performance and lifespan, but I personally plan on getting the potenzas when my dunlops wear thin. two more tires you shoudl definitley check out, I got the dunlops from tirerack for less than $80 each, and they were shipped to my door in only a couple days. very satisfied.
