Wheel Size

Ok, I've decided on two wheels the MOMO Quasar II's or the Konig Blatant Opal. I'm debaiting if I want 17's or 18's. If the wheel is 18 x 7.5 what size tire should I get and will it rub?

215 or 225 / 40-18

225 should flush, 215 tires should angle a lil bit.

i know a few people with 225 width and lowered no more than 2 inches, no rubbing.

The widest I'd get is a 215. That width is flush with the wheelwell. If you get a 225 it will stick out a little bit. I'd also get the 17's instead of the 18's. The 18's will affect your performance, and since we don't have very fast cars, I'd get the 17's.

CivicEnvy.. I know the 18 will slow my car down.. but i'm doing 8 pounds of boost from a t3 turbo this summer.

wont' slow u down unless it weighs less. it's all about the weight.

No, if the diameter is larger than the stock tire then your car will have to work much harder to get the wheels moving.

well, if he goes with 17x7 or 17x7.5 he probably will use 205 or 215 width. The diameter has some effect, but if the wheels are 5lb lighter than stock one, then how is that gonna slow it down? Unless he runs with 225, which might be too wide and has more contact with the ground, then it will slow the car down....by milli second

That really depends if the wheel is forged or caster. If it's caster, sure. If it's forged, then it's not so bad.

I also want to add that with forged rims, the mass weight of the center of the rim is lighter... thus allowing less inertia/energy to rotate that wheel.

Well I have 17" rims with 215/45 and I wish I had gone with the 18" since I don't use them for performance as much as I though I would. But I would say go with the 2nd ones. On 18" I would go 215/40 or 225/40 no way I would do 215/35.

MOMOs are heavy as FVCK. I'm talking like 25 or 30 lbs. They're beefy. If you have plans of going fast, get 17's. If you just want to look good, then 18s. I have 215/45 and the tires sit flush with the edge of the fenders. 17's also help if the roads suck.... but I'd choose the Konigs eitherway.

If the given choices are 17 or 18, would you choose the 18? I don't think so. Sure, if you really wanted to go fast, get 15's... but thats not a choice here is it?

Either way if THAT'S the choice one must not care enough about going fast over making their car look good. Bottom line, 17s kill performance and don't have "speed" in mind since you'll go slower that stock no matter what.

IMO, concerning performance I think it would make more sense to say, if you want to go slow, get 17s. If you want to go even slower, get 18s.
