Question What are the widest tires you can run on stock 15" rims?

Just wondering this. The Si (EX) has stock P185/65-HR15's, but I'm just wondering what are the widest tires that will fit on the stock Honda rims?, making sure they don't rub the fender of course. Also, if you were to run a, let's say, P205/60VR15 set of tires, they have a Overall Diameter of 24.5" vs the stock 24.3". How bad would that mess up your speedometer/odometer? And are P205/60VR15 too wide, will they rub the fender when turning full lock? and will they even fit on the stock 15" Honda rims? Thanks. If you know the width of the Honda rims, do tell

A 215 would probably work anything wider may give you some rubbing, I would probably stick with 205's they should work fine.

Ok thanks, so you think they won't rub, but they aren't too wide to fit on the rims are they? Do you know how wide the Honda 15" rims are?

Oh yeah and would a 24.5" OD vs 24.3" OD mess up the speedo/odo much?

I don't think 215 tires will fit on the Si rims. The rims aren't wide enough. I think you can probably go with a 205.

Ok, thanks. But you don't happen to know the exact width of the stock 15" rims do you?

I'm guessing they are 7 X 15" rims, since they come with P185/65-HR15's, 185mm is just over 7", does that make sense?

I don't know the exact size, but I have 17's and they are a 17x7. So my guess is they are smaller than mine.

215 will fit alright, but will bulge out like a doughnut.

Hmmm... maybe I'll just stick with the stock size (not stock tires) until I get bigger rims.

i believe ed is correct. the stock ex wheel is either 15 x 6 or 15 x 6.5. i too am interested in getting new tires for my car. the stock firestones are just plain horrible. if you look at the tire calculator on this site, 215-55-15 seems to be the size that will still yield an accurate reading on the speedometer and odometer. however, i have been unable to locate any tires in this size. they probably would bulge out like doughnuts anyway. i am now looking at either 205-60-15 or 205-55-15. the 60's are a closer fit in terms of diameter in relation to the stock tires, but i think i like the way the 55's look. in any event i'll probably go with yokohamas. do not buy goodyears. i wouldn't even put that slop on my huffy. later.

Yeah I think I'll get P195/60-R15's. We have a lot of potholes laying around here (did you know that we *Nova Scotia* have the worst roads in Canada lease so I don't want a really low profile tire, but the 195's are just a bit wider than the stockies, so they will look better. I'll probably end up getting the Bridgestone Potenza RE950's, they seem to be an amazing All-Season tire, with phenomenal grip in all conditions.

bridgestone also makes a very good tire. i used to have them on an old set of 16 in. tsw stealths that i had on my nissan altima in high school and college. those tires wore like iron. i also had a set of michelins that very good, but man were they expensive. for the 15 inch yokohamas it is around $65-$70. i think that is pretty reasonable. good luck with the new tires.

Thanks.

Does anyone know if buying from The Tire Rack is any good? Will I get brutally raped on shipping charges since I live in Canada? Or would I be better off to try and find someone around here carrying them?

You can add the items to the shopping cart and then get your shipping charges and if they are too much then just cancel the order. You don't give them any information before you get the shipping charges.

one other thing to consider when buying tires online, through the mail, etc. is that you will still have to take them to a shop to have them mounted and balanced on your wheels. the shop will most likely bend you over for this service because you did not purchase the tires through them. while their initial price for the tires may be a little more, most tire places will mount and balance the tires for free as long as you buy through them. i too am attracted by the low prices advertised in magazines, but in the end i will probably just go to a local shop. it's a lot easier that way.

p.s. - my brother bought a set of rims and tires from discount tire direct and was very pleased with both the price and the shipping charges.

Another suggestion... I am purchasing 195/55 15 series tires for my 2000 style Si wheels. I went to a local tire store saying I want the stickiest tire you have. He suggested tires by the name of
Matador" I looked at the tread design, definately geared towards peformance. Try searching on google.com or something to see if you can find a pic. They should treat you well. Also not bad and price. For me, set of four, balanced and mounted, new valve stems all for only $366.00. I asked other tire places and they said that the Matador is an excellent tire. Hope that helps ya

If you want to go 215 on a 15, at least buy 15x7/7.5 inch rims.

I think I already asked this, but for the stock Honda rims, a P205/60-R15 wouldn't be too wide for it would it? I looked at the tire calculator on this site, and it said that's what Plus Zero is, but I'm just wondering if the stock Honda rims are wide enough for P205/60-R15's?
