Resurfacing Rotor

I'm about to change the front brake pads this weekend. I want to resurface the rotors while I'm in there. I've heard the dealer charges $100 to resurface rotors. Someone told me that I can disassemble the rotor myself and take it to a machine shop to get it resurfaced, and only charge $20 or so. Has anyone done this before? Where did you took your rotors to get resurfaced and how much? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yah I have done this on several cars. Just take the rotor off the ride and take it to a shop like you were told before. It shouldn't cost that much. I get it done at PEP BOYS is SoCal for $24.Call the brand name / popular shops in your area and comparison shop.

Call around. The Autozone in town Turns the rotors for free, if you buy pads there. I am pretty sure if you just want them turned down they are like 10 bucks.

I got both of mine cut for $10. The rotor is screwed down with two phillips screws, they are a pain in the a*s to take off without the right tools. I stripped the head of one of them so bad i had to drill it out. Be Carefull, Use WD40 it helps. About Autozone, I bougth their pad and i totally hate them. After i put them on for about two days i felt like they were not braking, i gave them time to brake in. Now its been about a week and about 250 miles, the brake paddle is stiff and they wore in OK. They thing the i hate about them is they are loud, when i brake i can hear the pad grinding against the rotor. My stock pads never did that.
