It would'nt matter, your tire size would. Most likely you will use a 215/45-17 tire with a 17" rim and that should offer you a bit more protection than a 18" or 19" rim with a 35 series sidewall.

The design of the rim and how it was made is going to effect it's strength. The weight of it has nothing to do with it. If it was designed well, then it should be both light and strong... also expensive. The lightest wheels made are forged... they're also the strongest, and the most expensive. Tire size is more of a factor.
