Alright I am in the market for some new rims. And while searching for new rims I came across all sorts of different types of lugs that you can purchase. I really dont want to get my new rims stolen, cuz that happens quite frequently here in southern california. I was just wondering what kind of lugs every one uses from race type ones like Ray's or Kyokugen. or splinedrive and ordinary lock lugnuts. And what everyones opinions are on them?

The three things I want to keep in mind from best to last is:

1. Theft protection-how easy would it be for a theft to break them off, or have a universal key of their own?

2. Looks-cuz I dont want some big ole bulky looking lug nuts on my sexy new rims

3. And price-cuz I am not bill gates! (but it comes last cuz I will pay a lot, if it protects my new wheels a lot)

According to a lot of people on a lot of forums (I searched this a few weeks ago)... Kyokugens suck big time... the key apparently strips very easily making them a pain to get off. The Rays nuts are $135, so that kills your budget constraints. Spoon lugs are about $100 for a set, SplineDrives are ok, but I read they don't hold torque very well.
Don't buy lugnuts before you have rims picked out and ordered for sure. There are tons of tapers in different rims so make sure the lug nuts you buy match the taper of the hole in the rims. Mugens and Spoonies are 45 degree taper which is a bit un-common, so I wouldn't buy the Spoon or Mugen nuts, they won't fit. I don't know about the Rays. The Honda factory rims use ball lug nuts, they've got round ends... most common is the 60 degree conical taper (aka Acorn) lug nuts. I've got plain old McGard Locks on my Superleggeras.
I don't know if you can see them, but there you go...

oh yea I think I am going to get the Velox vx-8 (I know everyone's got them, but thats what I like most)

Gorilla locks are one of the best. They don't have universal keys and are made in many different styles. Tuner style are universal and are NOT locks, every tire shop in the country have the key.

You can find them at discount tire for a resonable price (I think around $20 for the set).

I have tuner lugs and the only way you can get them off is if you have the adapter because they are small. They were only $30 too.
