Bleeding Brakes????

First off, I haven't bled my brakes for a while. I think it has been almost 10,000 miles. Is it really necessary to bleed my brakes? Why is it important? Is it really hard to do, or is it something that I can do in my own garage? Lastly, is there a DIY on the site on how to bleed your brakes, if it is really necessary to do so on my civic?

I don't think it's necessary to replace brake fluid at 10k miles. Honda service manual recommends replacing brake fluid after 3 years, not determined by milage. I would say only bleed brakes if you feel there's air bubbles inside the brake lines.

Not really. It can be messy but it's not that difficult, maybe time consuming yes. If you have someone to help you who knows what they're doing then it can go much faster (as they can either pump the fluid out the car for you or while you can determine if the feel of your brake pedal is adequate).

To add to the above.. yes every few years its recommended that you replace your fluid. When it starts to get real dark or is black, its overdue or you might have other malfunctioning parts. The last time I bled my brakes I bought a MityVac brake bleeding kit. Its a hand pump with a reservoir container that you connect to the bleeder and suck out all the fluid and air. Works great and you can do it yourself. You just keep pumping until you see clear fluid coming out. You can find them online and at Wal-Mart I think..
