Unhappy 225/40/18 with GoldLine drop

I'm scared....

I just ordered some 18's w/ 225/40/18 tires and I was wondering if i'm gonna have any problems (rubbing) when I slap them on. I am dropped with GoldLine (it's not even that low) and before i was running 205/40/17 and there was still alot of wheel gap with the 17's.

Is anyone else running 225/40/18 with a drop?

he's got no choice, with 18" you have to go with 215 minimum (they don't make 205/18 for a reason). i'd go with 215/40/18 to be safe.

205 is way to thin, the tire wouldn't be able to sit the bead on the wide rim. 215 still kinda looks funny, the best would be 225 but then again, with the goldline drop, it might rub.

225 is too thick. You'll probably have alot of rubbing with it dropped with goldlines.

so without a drop you should be good with that tire size?

205-40-17 vs 225-40-18 is a night and day difference..
its about 1.25" bigger. with goldlines you WILL RUB. 225-40-18 is just too thick... even without a camber kit you probably have to roll your fenders. correcting camber, you can forget about it.

okay....who are these guys saying that they will fit and that they have them on their rides??? anyone? I want to know from someone who has 225/40/18s on their ride, how well they fit or IF they do. I believe you VNlilMan, but I don't understand why all these other guys would say they prefer that size tire over another tire??

IMO 215/40/18 is a better choice. 215/35 is too thin for the roads around here and 224/40 is just huge.

I have 215/45/17 series tires with Goldline drop. My rear tires rub against rear fenders when going over bumps, because 215 series tires are too wide for Civic's rear wheel well. With 225 series tires, you are going to have a hell lot of rubbing.

well ok i'll admit i havnt been explaining everything too well so here it is... there are alot of variables to take into account when trying to see if something rubs or not...

1) size of tires and rim(obviously)
2) amount of drop(again thats obvious)
3) offset(it might be in mm but still makes a difference)
4) tire brand. its like shoe size, not all brands have the exact same size. its around that ballpark but not exact. you might be a size 10 in nike but a 9 in reebok. same with tires, some tires are slightly bigger then others even when their tagged the same size.
5) alignment...you drop 5 stock cars with goldlines. chances are none of the cars are going to have the same exact alignment.

i have 215-40-18s.. my tires are even bigger than Frank2s's 215-45-17. i have neuspeed drop as well, i've hit bumps pretty hard, even parked on hills where my tires would tuck all the way. i had no problems with it rubbing at all.. this just shows, no car is exactly the same as another.

generally speaking 225-40-18s, you will rub. why would you want to anyways.. even 215-40-18s are pretty thick. if they are still too thin for you i would recommend you get 17s. i personally would try and get 225-35-18s next time tho, my 40s are too thick and 215-35-18s are too thin. 225-35 just seems like the perfect size. but ya you might rub, its a chance i'm willing to take. you can always make it fit...

I just bought 18x7.5" wheels. I put on 225-40-18 perelli tires. I got the nuespeed race springs and my rear wheels did rub....but then I got the fenders rolled and now im fine no more rubbing. I perfer the 225-40-18 because there are a few bumps around my neighborhood...if you go ewith those tires....just roll your fenders.
