Only my passenger side brake pad is worn down...

Changed my oil and rotated my tires today, and while doing so I checked out my brakes. My driver's side rotor seems to have some very fine grooves on the surface, they weren't rough at all when I felt them, but I could barely feel some. That side's brake pad was in near perfect shape. However, on the passenger side, that rotor was VERY smooth, almost perfect, but the brake pad was worn down...I would say in the 50% to 75% range. Why just that one pad? Now I need to get new brake pads (not gonna just replace one, doesn't seem like a good thing to do). Any specific brands to recomend? Are the AEM/nissan ones any good?

I would definatly go for the nissin pads. i'm just waiting for my og's to go out so I have a good reason to install them. Better braking and less black dust. Make sure that you get both of your rotors turned so that everything starts out even.

What do you mean by "both of my rotors turned"? And whats the average price for a pair of the AEM/nissan pads?

Turning the rotors means taking them to a shop and have them re-surfaced on a brake lathe, this removes any grooves or "run-out" which could cause the brake pedal to pulsate this; is very important to insure proper pad contact and will also reduce the chance of the brakes squeeking.

I'm a little confused on what you said about "one pad" because there are 2 pads on each caliper, and both pads should wear evenly on each caliper on each side. If the drivers side (left) looks fine but when you pull the pasenger side wheel off (left) and it looks almost wore out, theres a problem. It could be a caliper sticking, or a possible brake line clog or restriction.

When I say "one pad" I talk about both pads in the passenger side caliper as ONE. Meaning, that side is worn out noticably more so than the driver's side. Oh and I have never heard of that procedure being refered to as "turning the rotors". I have always thought of it as "having your rotor's surfuced or resurfaced".

Turning is a old mechanics slang refering to the rotor turning on the lathe, I'm glad you cleared up the "one pad" issue because I thought maybe you didn't know that there was 2 pads per caliper.

Still both sides of the car should wear evenly, if one side is noticably wore down compared to the other side then you might have a caliper sticking or a flex hose with some blockage. Unless you race your car hard through turns, and heat up the brakes a lot, then they should wear evenly.

So I should plan a trip to the dealer? Or are there any ways I can look/test for those specific problems you mentioned?

Well this is tough to answer because brakes are fairly complex but not so that you couldn't do it yourself, if you're not familiar with how the system works you could be in for a long day. If the car is under warrenty then I'd take it to the dealer and have them look how your pads on the right side are wearing out faster then on the left side. If you're out of your warrenty then take it to a good shop, because on top of a possible sticking caliper (which is most common) it could be a obstructed brake line, or maybe something with the ABS Modulator but I dought thats the problem.

The easiest thing to do is have a certified mechanic look at your brakes and get his opinion, it might cost you a couple bucks but it will save you time. Brakes are the most important thing on your car, so you need to take good care of them.

Brakes and tires are the most important indeed! Extended warrenty should have me covered on this then.
