Brake Dust question

I am thinking about getting some cross drilled rotors for my LX coupe. Neuspeeds or Powerslot (slotted) probably, since Brembo doesn't make an LX coupe version. The Neuspeeds are black, some sort of coating they put on there(not sure if it comes off after a while or anything). If I added these rotors with AEM pads, would that cut down on the dust? AEM pads are low dust, right? Any suggestions for me? I think this is my next mod. Thanks!

I think you're looking for a ceramic or organic set of pads, but rotors won't make a difference...the slotted or cross-drilled rotors are for heat displacement, but they're prone to warping. Get the blanks if you want breaking power, get the cross-drilled/slotted if you want to look good. Fact remains, they're good for autocrossing or extremely heavy breaking situations, but just fashion for every day driving.

I've tried EBC brake pads and they dust like a mother. I've had OEM's since I replaced my rotors and I've noticed a reduction by half or more in my break dust...just another reason why OEM is still a good choice! AEM pads are supposed to be the greatest for stopping power.

So ceramic pads are low dust? Cool. Thanks fellas!

TwilightX - Your OEM pads produce less than EBCs? Maybe it's not brake dust on my wheels then? Weird.

Well what do you have on there now? How often do you wash your car/wash or your wheels? I do a full wash every other week, and the amount of brake dust is easier to take off more than when I had the EBC pads. I used to have to really get in the spokes to get it all clean, which sucked. I read up more and found out that they do dust heavy...

Give me a shout back with those questions and I'll see if I can help you more...later!

Well, right now I'm using stock pads. Maybe I'm just to agressive braking? I know what you mean by having to clean the spokes, cause thats what I have to do now - definately sucks!! Thanks for your help!

By the way, you right in Boston? I am originally from Gloucester.

Cool! I'm actually originally from Long Island, but that's another story altogether

Sounds to me like you're doing some aggressive breaking - depends on how long you've been riding on those same pads and how often you clean. Like I said, I clean once every other week (summer I clean every week cause I'm sick in the head lol)...so the buildup could be either your breaking or how well you clean.

If I were you and you're not getting any vibrations through the steering wheel, just replace the pads...try out the AEM pads, or even powerstop. You can "turn" your rotors too, resurfacing them, provided you have enough of the rotor to resurface. Considering how new your car is, I don't think you should have any issues turning them. I think it's relatively inexpensive to do.

Also, you may want to get some brake cleaner and see if you can just spray around the pads...spraying the pads is not such a good idea, but you might get rid of some of the buildup on the brake components themselves.

As for full rotor replacement, I still recommend Brembo blanks - they're OEM-type rotors that do the job really well. Cross-Drilled/Slotted will work too, but like I said earlier, they're really not going to give you any more bite than usual.

Be careful where you buy too, because some companies will buy the blanks and then machine them themselves. When it comes to brake components, I'd feel safer if they came from Brembo or AEM or whatever already finished and not modified aftermarket. They may run a little more expensive, but at least you have the backing by the company that if they fail, they'll have enough money to give you when you sue them
