Brake change indicator question

Alright, I know about those metal indicators on brake pads that squeal when the pads are worn down. It sounds like a good idea and all, indicating to the driver when to change the pads. But wouldn't this still damage the rotors? If they do, are there any other ways to indicate a pad change?

no they don't damage the rotor. The little "squeal strip" is a smal thing pice of metal that bends when the pad gets lower and lower. It causes no more damage then the pads do. and Furthermore when you do hear it, you should change the pads and thus minimizing anny damage any way.

Basically Dont worry about it.

some higher end german cars have a little sensor next to the pad hooked up to an idiot light on the dash.
but the squeal strip works fine. i've seen rotors on other cars worn from it but why TF didn't they just change the freakin pads. Oh ya...don't do the bend it back technique or the next indicator that you need pads will be the grinding noise coming from your destroyed rotors.
