What tire do you have and how good is it in the rain?
I live in L.A. so it doesn't rain a lot, but when it does, the worst drivers get on the road and try and hit me.
Good rain tires could save my life!

i have falken 512 all season tires, its not badd in the rain...
but hey i think anythings better then the stock firestones so...

Off the top of my head, i can't think of exact details as far as availibility for 17's......Michelin has alot of different variations of the Pilot in that size area, some made for more rain. Mmmmm, check out some of the pole position bridgestones, and Pirelli has some Pzero and other performance tires that are good for rain.

hell yeah soniccivic, those pole positions are sweeet.....i got really into tires, and do research and constantly read things....those pole positions are superior. I believe some Porsche models use those. Too bad i don't have the money for some of those and rims to match.

Really? I checked at tirerack, they are rated a summer tire, but got great scores for wet and dry... kickass!

I got into tires myself after I upgraded mine. That is gonna be my future tire... that or the Toyo T1S.

Currently I have some rip-off copy of the Dunlap 9000 (I didn't buy them, they came with the car).
They actually are quick good, I may even get the real Dunlap 9000's as replacements.
Michelin- they are always the most expensive, but not always the best
Pirelli- always seem to be lacking in one area or another, (wear, noise...ect.)
Yokohama's- great performance for the money, I leaning towards get the AVS ES100

But I'll have to agree that the S03 is the best performance rain tire available, according to everything I have heard and read.

What is the rip off name and model?...is it Caliente? I had always made fun of my gf cuz she has caliente's...but they aren't too bad for what they are worth.

HAHA.....sadly, they do....i used to dog on them soooo bad... "man those caliente's at HOT!!" and "hey nice ride,chica, rollin on some Z rated Caliente's, spending G's!"....she would just shake her head in shame.....they aren't as bad as i thought...good even treadwear, and nice traction, especially good in the rain, too.

I like my Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's. Much better than stock in the rain. Much much better actually...

firestone firehawk's all season performance tires. better than your stock tires and better than a lot of other performance tires, all year round, rain, snow, whatever.

The Sumitomo HTR+ had really good all-weather performance ratings too.
It might be a little overboard for what I need in SoCal, but the reviews at tirerack are quite good.

I would never buy firestones again....for the price of firehawks, i'd look into yokohama avids, Bridgestones-Potenza's or others, and some all season michelins.

there's nothing wrong with the firehawk series, firestone actually makes good tires. its like comparing your stock deck made by pioneer (not necessarily) and a aftermarket deck by pioneer. same company, but the stock variety sucks, while the aftermarket is much better. doesn't mean all the tires suck.

Bridgestone owns Firestone if I'm not mistaken.

I like the Yokohama Avids however even though they do a great job gripping the ground, I dislike how they squeal on hard turns. It doesn't affect traction at all though but it could attract the wrong attention. I have yet to test them on a wet surface because it hasn't really rained much here yet.

And let me say it again. Cheap cars come with cheap tires. You buy a 12-16k car, you're gonna get cheap tires that matches the car's pricetag. Respectively the Integra Type R (DC2) came with Bridgestone Potenzas stock. Consumers loved the way the tires stuck to the ground... it's just that they hated their longevity. However with a much more expensive car you would get something that actually lasts.

I see what you mean. OE Firestones don't represent the entire spectrum of what they have to offer. The numbers do get better on the other models. Research shows, though, that for the price, Bridgestone offers much higher ratings and satisfaction than firetsone. The firehawk GTA and FTX is a horrible tire for the money. Now some other model, such as the Affinity have a bit better numbers, but still not equal to what bridgestone can offer for the money. Yeah-its kinda funny how bridgestone/firestone/daytona are closely related but one is pretty shabby.

they work great for me. cornered at 50 mph into a parking lot no skid in the rain.

Bridgestone Potenza RE950's are in my opinion the best rain tire. What a difference between the stock Firestones. They get great reviews at Tirerack.com The Potenza RE950's handle better in the rain than the stock Firestones do when it's dry.

the sumitomos are awesome, look into the hrt+4 model, I love them
