Rep Power: 0 215/45/17 tires on 17x7 wheels
hey people. i finally recieved my wheels from Steve at www.whalentire.com.
they are 17x7 wrapped with 215/45/17 tires and most importantly... the offset is +40MM. NO RUBBING PROBLEMS AT ALL! well.. my car is lowered 1.3 H&R.. anyways... even with a full load! just to past this on...

Rep Power: 0 my tires are kumho 215/45/17 mounted on 17x7 4x100 +40MM Konig Heliums. the deal was pretty complicated. i won the auction on ebay for a set of 215/45/17 Kumho for $250 plus shipping. I called Steve from whalen tires and asked him for the special on wheels. He sold me the set of tires 215/45/17 kumho mounted and balanced on 17x7 Konig Heliums 4x100 +40MM for $900 shipped with lugs as well. the wheels fit great. i can feel a substantial differance during hard corning. the body roll has reduced dramiticly. and finally.. the wheels dont rub at all... even with a H&R 1.3 inch drop.. full load too!
hope this helps...
215/45/17 Kumho mounted on 17x7 Konig Heliums... 4x100 most importantly... +40MM
plus... i weighed the tire mounted on the rim. bathroom scale reads 37lbs... the rim was advertised at 16lbs.. 37-16= 21lbs... tire weight!
James.
hope this helps...

Rep Power: 0 still the same... on my friend's 98 civic Ex... when he went from stock 15's to 17's (205/40/17).. he was not able to chirp on 2nd...
when i was on my stock wheels... i can chirp easily around... 6k RPM... now... on 17's (215/45/17).. i can still chirp around... 6200RPM... not a significant power differance.. i guess it is due to the circumfrance.. here is the tire calc..
plus...
according to whalentire.com, our tires (185/65/15) weigh approx 18-19lbs... and on our stock wheels.. i was only able to find the wheel weight for for 14".. and it is 18lbs . so for our 15's.. it will weigh slightly more.
here are the links.
Tire Weight
whalentire.com.. 185/65/17 tire weight
they still sum up around 35lbs each.. our stock wheel setup.
the ideal tire & wheel combo should be equal or lesser then our stock setup.
immagine this... for example.. if our aftermarket wheels weigh 35lbs or more.. our car's suspension components and brakes would wear down quicker becuase our cars arent designed for anything more then 35lbs. It will need more stopping power to slow our wheels down.. and when we hit bumps... by the laws of physics.. the inertia would be increased.. in result adding more pressure upon our suspension.
i believe Konig Heliums, Rota Subzero, Rota Attack, Volk Gram Lights are all 16lbs a peice for 17"s.
only the Konig Heliums and the Volk Gram Lights come in +40MM offset. Rota's offset are +45MM.. which mean they will sink into the wheel well... in result.. it is more likely to rub on the inner wheel well. so far with +40MM offset.. dropped on H&R 1.3" springs.. plus full load..(5 people), i didnt have any rubbing problems.
hope this helps.

Rep Power: 0 thanks for the input cvc2k2
i checked out the weight of the 215/45/17 tires at whalen and it says 23 lbs... dang that's alot. but since you say you haven't noticed much loss of power, i still might go with 17" subzeros with the 215/45 tires, but do you think there would be a noticeable increase in power/acceleration by going with 15" slipstreams (12 lbs each) which would make the tire/wheel weigh about 30-31 lbs? (slipstreams would cut off 6-7 lbs per wheel/tire compared to stock)

haha... my bathroom scale is off... and i thought i lost weight!
yes... i assume you would feel a slight differance... but it would deffininately be better on your suspension & brakes.
IMO, since our car's wheel wells are so much larger then previous gen's, the 16" slipstream would look better. but the 16's weigh about 13.5lbs, so it is your call.
for the 16's, i would go with the 97-01 prelude size tire. 205/50/16 or maybe 205/55/16.. there is a vast selection on 55 series tires though. but if you go with the 50's.. you can get some potenzas...

Rep Power: 0 yeah i agree, the 7th gen civic's wheel wells are too big, mainly the rear one. i guess i won't know for sure which (15" slipstreams or 17" subzeros) one i would like more until i actually put them on my car and tried them out. the 15's look too small but if it could actually speed my acceleration, i would get those since i care more about that than just looks (who really looks at it except when it's parked anyway). many thanks for all the info and help.
