wheel locks: splinedrive or wheel lock?

I'm thinking of getting McGard wheel locks, and I'm wondering are splinedrives or wheel locks better? Anybody have the McGard wheel locks?

wheellock is better cus its harder to force it to turn but be warned about any lock,,,u have to be sure they will fit ur particular rim cus some rim only have a very small space for the lug wrench/socket to fit over the nut.

dont you use wheellocks along with the splinedrive? to my understanding you only use 1 wheel lock per wheel and have lug nuts on the other 3. wheellocks costs about $25 for a set of 4 with key while splinedrive lugnuts are $1 a peice and $3 for the key. but ya most aftermarket wheels use 'tuner style' or small diameter lug nuts

McGard sells kits where you get 12 Splinedrive lugnuts, 4 locking lugnuts, Splinedrive socket, locking lug socket, and 4 valve stems. Just get that and you'll be all set! (and you'll have 4 valve stems leftover like me)

I have the Splinedrive/Lock combo, and I was wondering how good are the locks compared to what else is out there, meaning how easy is it for a potential thief to take them off without the key?

Spline drives are really easy to jack, because all u need is a key (which can be bought on the web for less than $100 for a whole bunch of sets). Wheel locks, theoretically each one is different (locks generated by computers) so it would take a little more effort. But if somebody wants to jack it, they'll jack it. But if you have non-brand name though chances are they won't think its worth the effort.

splinedrives arent actually supposed to be used as a security thing. you should think of them as regular lug nuts. but ya wheel locks should prevent most thieves

Sounds pretty good...any idea how much those are supposed to run. What's considered a good price if I find it?

I found my receipt for when I bought them. I got it from Summit Racing.

The McGard kits are really nice quality--I bought the kit in black last year from Summit [MCG-65457BK]...

at that time it was $72.95 + shipping
