Yokohama Avid T4 tires -- anyone know anything about these?
Ok, before all you performance guys go spouting off that these aren't good performance tires, I know. I'm not looking for performance - my Civic is stock except for a few upgrades. I'm looking for mostly a good ride, good price, and good traction (the wet traction on the Firestone FR690 blows chunks -- even dry traction blows). The T4's are T rated which is one step up from the S rated stock tires. Hopefully this will cut down on the squeeling around corners? Some performance characteristics would be good but I definitely don't need U, H, V, or whatever tires. I'm just wondering if anyone has heard good or bad things about them. The price is right (around $40/tire).

I've heard a lot of good things about Yokohoma avid H4's. My friends got them on his rims and they give him great grip. These are a bit more expensive yet better than the tires they normally give you when you purchase rims . So you can't loose, go for it.

They are great tires. I am running them now. The main reason I got them was because the Firestones were terrible in rain, these have great traction in wet weather. Good choice in tires.
I had them and have now gone to the Dunlop SP Sports for a couple of reasons. I found the Avids to be a bit loud, they did not handle as well in either the dry or the rain, and The sidewell is not as strong as the Dunlop - oh and they are about the same price and have about the same warranty. tirerack has them for $50 each as does Whalen I believe.

I've been doing alot of tire research lately, the Avid T4's have a treadwear rating of 420....thats not bad for the price, althought there is no warranty. 1jazzyciv made a good choice w/ the Dunlops, they make a good tire, and i believe they carry at least a 50,000 mile warranty. In my experiences, astr033, for what you are looking for, i have had good luck with Pirelli P400's. I am a big fan of Michelin, but price may be an issue. My michelin destiny's have an 80,000 mile warranty and 680 treadwear rating.
I guess all my rambling sums up to: The avids are gonna be good, i would look at the dunlops and pirelli's....if price isn't a factor, check out michelin.

Hmmm, I will consider the Dunlops. Price is definitely a factor. I'm trying to get the best tire for the price. I'm not sure if I trust 1jazzyciv's review just because every single review I've seen on the T4's have said that the tires are very quiet. Even the bad reviews gave a thumbs-up in terms of noise. I wonder why 1jazzyciv's T4's are so loud. Regardless, thank you for the info on the SP Sports. I will give them a look.

I just checked out the Dunlop SP Sport A2 tires on tirerack.com. They look pretty good. They don't have any 185/70/14's. The closest they have is 185/65/14. Does that make any difference? I may spend the extra $11 per tire to go with the SP Sports. Thank you, 1jazzyciv, for your suggestion. I'm sorry for saying that I didn't trust your review but now that I see how quiet the Dunlops supposedly are I can see that the Yokohamas may be relatively louder. Whichever tire I get I'm sure it will be a huge improvement over the stock Firestones on our Civics. Talk about no wet traction!
ok gotta webpage to check out link
This does prove me wrong about the warranty on the avids....the 7 dollars difference is really the only difference factor.....your choice!
Also, that size (195/65/14) makes the speedo 0.895%too fast....which is nothing.
