cleaning your rims
Have you looked at the wheel manufacturer's website. They usually have a recommendation on how you should clean your wheels. Also, be careful when using wheel cleaners because they tend to be acid or lye-based and can damage the finish. Usually, mild dish soap and water will get the job done.

For me at least, I tend to avoid wheel cleaners, just because I worry about the possibility of abrasives and what not. I use the same soap for my car to clean the rims (Which is a Meguiar's product). It's a CAR soap, so its safe the entire exterior, including wheels. Waxing will help protect your wheel's finish, as well as make it shiney. I usually wax monthly.
If you have Konigs, DO NOT use any type of wheel cleaner. The polish will start chipping off. I just use water and car soap to clean rims. I don't trust those wheel cleaners cause some of them use potassium or something like that which eats away @ the rim. Also sometimes will start dulling the color of the rim.

IMO, it is best to just use the soap you wash your car with. I have never used wheel cleaners for reasons already mentioned, and the fact that I am too cheap to buy the stuff. Why spend the money if it only takes a couple of minutes anyway?
