HCH- 15" wheels from EX?
HCH- 15" wheels from EX?
We need new tires on our 2005 Hybrid (they are worn and really old). They are standard size 185/70R14 on some aftermarket alloy rims.
We have an opportunity to pick up a set of Wheels and Tires from a 2004 Honda Civic EX (original alloy) and they are 185/70R15 size and they are all the same 4 lug pattern. We haven't been able to try them on, but they look wider and wonder if there might be a clearance or offset issue. The alignment specs. are different on the two cars, but I think the suspension components seem the same, otherwise.
Does anyone know if these tires and wheels will fit?
Thanks,
Tim

The rim should fit. The tire is taller and wider than the old one. Can't say for sure if the tire will work.
I did something similar, put stock 05 tires and rims on a 2000, and the tire was too big. Put the correct tire for a 2000 on the rim and it was fine.

You may find this helpful. It was useful when I was locating and choosing different rims.

Update: if anyone is looking at this post, it went really well. No clearance issues and I like the look, too. The only downside is that, with the wider tires, my mileage is down I always get between 40 and 50 mpg. Usually around 40 around town (the hybrid battery is weak) and almost 50 on highway trips.

you are using a bigger tire than stock (185/60R15 is the correct size).
That means:
We don't know if you are actually using more fuel by stepping more in pedal.
You need to be aware of these before changing tire sizes.
This have nothing to do with tire width (they are 185 width both...)
That means:
- Your speedo is showing less speed (be careful with radars)
- your odometer is showing less miles than actual (which you use to calculate mileage, hint, hint)
- for a small engine, in your case a hybrid 1.3 litter, torque is important, especially if batteries are getting old. But using a larger diameter tire means you will have less torque, so to get same acceleration, you will need to step more on gas pedal...
