Rough Ride on 215/40/16s
Will going to 205/50/16's soften up the ride? the diameter of the whell is as close to stock as im going to get, but dont want to spend 300 on new tires if it's not going to be signifigantly noticable.
BTW anyone want to buy an almost new set of 215/40/16's?

I have 40 series rubber and really it isn't that bad. The less rubber you have between you and the road the more you are going to feel the road since there is nothing to absorb the shock.

50 series is as low as I would go. Anything less than that and the ride is definately going to be roller skate like and there is a big chance that one of your rims will get bent.
I roll on 205 40 17 and you can feal everything, i got such a small tire because big tires imo look like crap. if you are worried about ride quality then get 215 50 16 or a 225 50 16 to give a little bigger side wall it will help with the ride Q
Just my 1/2cent

I think a 40 looks dork on a 16" rim. 50s will fit better visually, but I would go for 45s and I think you would be OK. Are you racing? If not you probably don't need a 40 or 45. If it's just a look you want, then get whatever fullfills that look and live with the ride. If you want to look real close to stock go with 50s on the 16s. 10-4?
If you are racing you definatly would not want to go 205/40ZR17. You would want to go 45. If you are going to go with 225 or 215 you may be able to get away with 40 but probably not.
heh, put the stock rims back on if you want a "cushy ride" going to 50's will help too, or get a pair of "touring" tires from the rack.
these cars are so stiff now that the tires make a huge difference in ride.
this wasn't true not so long ago....
I have 205-45-17's on 7.5" rims and the civic went from tame to mame, it's a Beeatch to keep the car in line.

I just got a set of 225/50 16´s and I can tell you that ride quality is even better than with the stock 185/65 15´s. There is still a lot of space in between ( really a lot!) so nothing rubs. Also the type of tires you select will also affect the ride. I got michelins mvx (i think) but I know yokohamas are also quite soft.
215/ 50 is about as close to the original 185/65 15 on the EX based on the very useful tire calc on this page.
