Non Lowered Civic: 225/45/17

My friend is looking to buy some 17" rims right now off craigslist for his 2001 Honda Civic EX and he was asking me if they would fit. I did some searching around and I couldn't find a real definite answer. Some say they will fit some say they will not so I am confused what is true. He is not lowered and does not plan on lowering. I asked him to see what the offset and wheel width is and he hasn't responded yet. The tire size is 225/45/17 which is making me worried because I know that is pretty wide. If anyone can offer some advise I would appreciate it.

The offset and rim width will determine if it will fit.

Since he is not lowered he really shouldn't have a problem of they are high offset and 7" wide.

I looked up the rims and found out they are 17x7 with 40mm offset. Is that offset high enough?

Re: Non Lowered Civic: 225/45/17

That's a very conservative size; great size to lower with too.
Would recommend 215/45/17 over 225 though, since it's a 7" rim.
225 would be overkill IMO. 225 would fit, but I'd only do it on a 7.5"-8.0" rim.

Re: Non Lowered Civic: 225/45/17

If the tire wall is flush with the car body (i can't remember my exact offset, it's something positive about 2-2.5in) at stock ride hit 215/45/17 worked well for me.

However this was too wide when I lowered the car and could only lower her about 2 inches, otherwise the tires would rub when turning. I've heard good things about 205 width.

I wouldn't suggest 225, the car was never designed to handle anything that wide and heavy. Stock rims/tires are 185/65/15. 225 is huge in comparison.
