Hey. I am planning on replacing the front brakes on my 2001 civic lx. The rotors are bumpy which results in slight vibration in the pedal. Bought the Car last august and first time replacing the rotors and pads on it. It also takes more to stop the car now, pads need replaced to probably
I have been looking online at different brake packages. Ebc brakes look good and are priced good. Powerstop brakes are the cheapest I have seen. I also found regular brembo rotors for around $50 each. The Ebc kit I have been looking at is slotted rotors with green stuff pads. About $200 for the kit

I do mostly city driving with Many quite trips so heating the brakes up isn't a option. And the drivers in my city are terrible so need to be able to brake when they are cold. So probably no carbon ceramic pads.
What do you guys recommend based on price, quietness and best performance for daily driving for me. I need something that ships to Canada too. Thanks.

last time i changed mine which was about two years ago i went with ATE Premium One slotted rotors and Wagner Thermo Quiet pads, i am very pleased with them

The ATE rotors are pretty good, pads best you can get is hawk HPS if you want serious stopping power. The ATE rotors you can buy at Canadian Tire.

I'd get OEM pads unless they are super expensive. Rotors, you can go aftermarket on as long as they are decent quality.

I have heard that Ebc is supposed to be good quality and have been around for a while. I found this set for around $200. Seems like a Reasonable price too. What do you guys think. They look good to me

$200 for a set of brake pads is wayyyyyy too much.

you should no more than $70 on a pair of extremely high quality brake pads (hawk ceramics, HPS or even the duralast c-max).

there is no need for getting slots/drills unless you want to lessen the braking performance of your brakes.

get some good quality blanks + brake pads and you'll spend no more than about $120ish on rotor/pad combo.

OEM brake pads are only around $50 so why not go that route unless the OEM brakes aren't adequate for your high end tires or you are racing with them (getting them hot and if they aren't good when hot).

in my opinion, its more important to get good quality rotors as opposed to pads, cheap rotors will warp quickly, go expensive on the rotors and cheap/midrange on the pads, i think expensive pads are over rated, all they do is wear quicker

So do you think I should then buy the plain surface brembo rotors for about $40-50 each. Brembo s are supposed to be good quality. Then buy those hps or oem pads? How are those ceramic hps pads when they are cold. Gets cold here


So bought the brembo rotors and quiet pads made by Wagner . Installing on monday

Might want to do some research about cold performance of the HPS and HP+ pads before deciding. From a quick Google search the HP+ might squeal when cold?

Talked to the guy at Napa and he sold me brembo rotors and Napa premium/Wagner quiet ceramic pads. Was told they work good when cold and are supposed to be quiet. Installing Monday probably. Will post how they do.
Any tips on breaking them in? First time replacing brakes on my car

if you dont have an impact driver get yourself one, you will need it to remove the two small screws that hold the rotor on to the hub

There's a DIY somewhere on here I made to replace your brakes...

And ouch, I wouldn't have gone with the brembo blanks.
I have them right now on my car, they rust like nobody's business.

^ Didn't know that. All rotors here in Canadia rust like crazy thought. They still last just as long. Just look like bad after a while lol.. Not an impact driver, an Impact Screwdriver. It's smaller and much cheaper.

my ATE premium one rotors have been through two canadian winters now, not even one spec of rust anywhere on them, i know because i just had one of the rotors off last week to replace my wheel bearing,

Ya live in Saskatchewan so brakes rust quickly here. The brembos should be okay. And I'll look for an impact screwdriver if I don't use my school mechanics shop to do them

You will definitely need them. When you are done though you can discard those two screws. They are only there to keep the rotors on during assembly at the plant.

The Brembos rust so quickly....

I can wash the car, and an hour when I'm done washing, the rotor face already starts the rusting process.

I mean, they go away quickly after a few stops, but man they go quick.
I guess it might be a good thing, its a high amount of iron in there instead of an iron compound i guess...

I highly suggest painting the hubs though.

Here in Ontario they don't even sell rotors that have any kind of surface protection. With the increased prices here they don't even offer them, nobody will buy them. It's crazy.

Installed the brembo rotors and napa premium (Wagner quiet) pads today. Went well and they seem pretty good so far. Better stopping power than stock. Haven't slammed on the brakes completely to see how great they really are but pretty happy with them. The pads are completely quiet and work well
