Wheel recommendations please!

So this is my first post in this forum. I always looked around the this forum to pick up bits of knowledge about our 7th gen.

There's my car. It's a 2001 EX 5spd manual.

I originally wanted to upgrade my suspension to a) lower the car a bit and b) get a slightly stiffer ride with better handling and less body roll would be nice. But that's for another thread.

I don't think this car would look any better in my opinion if I lowered it with these ugly stock rims. So I would like some suggestions from those of you who know your rims.

I was looking into getting 17 inch rims. My two choices are bronze rims or the black rims with the silver lip(?). I'll disregard budget for now but suggest me some that aren't too darn expensive.

Any other suggestions you guys would like to share would be appreciated.

Re: Wheel recommendations please!

My vote goes for anything forged. XXR, Buddy Club, Motegi and other mid range wheel companies all have affordable forged options.

Re: Wheel recommendations please!

Thanks for the input guys!

Nice selection of rims but any suggestions more towards the black ones with the silver/chrome lip on it? I think it's called machined lip?

It seems like there's many brands that make similar designed rims.

Also, what comes first? The rims or the suspension? lol
Or what would you guys do first?

heres some pretty cheap black w/ polished lip

but since your car is silver i would go with bronze like these

not sure if either of those are forged...but check out tire discounters, you can view the rims on your virtual car

Re: Wheel recommendations please!

Neither or those are forged, but they both have relatively inexpensive forged alternatives.

If you like the look of the second set, those are a replica of Work CR Kai, easily the most common high end wheel in existence. I know of four authentic sets for sale local to me, all below $1k with tires. The high supply drives used prices way down on an awesome wheel.

You could just make them your next set, they come in other colours or you could paint them..

Personally though, red and bronze are one of my favourite colour combinations.

Re: Wheel recommendations please!

Yeah I just read that 17s are too big for our cars. 16s are ideal I guess. 15s are just too small for me hahah

Picking out the right rims is a lot harder than I thought it would be

Re: Wheel recommendations please!

17"s aren't to big, that's what I'm on now. In fact, I might size up to 18"s or even 19"s.

Our cars can support up to 20" rims.

Ride quality is subjective and there's more to it than just how the car feels going over bumps. The ride quality isn't that bad on 45 series tires and the shorter, stiffer side wall allows you to increase cornering speeds.

There was no EL coupe, it's a front end conversion. An 01-03 front end conversion at that, the 04-05 front end looks much better.

I mean like ride comfort
I know suspension plays a huge role but if I got a nice quality 1-1.5 in lower, slightly stiffer suspension setup with 17s, how would that compare to stock?

I think I'm still pretty vague lol

Mine really doesn't bother me with a very stiff suspension and 45 series tires, it only really sucks on a road where they're doing construction and it's all torn up. On the highway, smooth roads, it feels just fine.

If you go with 16"s you could run a 50 series tire, it's not till you downsize to stock 15"s where you can put a tire on large enough to really soften the ride. With lowering it depends on the springs, but eibachs or teins should ride very well.

Re: Wheel recommendations please!

"What you talking about sucka, Mr. "B" dont ride like no girl." Haha. MindBomber what are some good referencing sites to learn more about what tire sizes and widths are good for what ever wheel size I will go with. I like the aggressive look of 17's but Cant find the styles I like in that size that are affordable. Im looking for performance and comfort but not nessesaraly to concerned with comfort as long as its comfort lacking doesnt cause vehicle damage. I would go so far as to install 16's as they give a little bit more aggression in there stance appearance. But would never ride on anything bigger than 17's as that is to "hooptish" . In my town here, There are caddy's riding on... wait for it.... 26's and im not kidding either. Looks like a ****ing 19th century Horse drawn carriage going down the road. And the tires are like no thicker than an inch or so. Im sure that the ride sucks ***.

I got a used set of 4 x 100 MSR 17" (gunmetal 7-spoke) that are really light (not sure if they're cast or forged).

Offset is 42mm and I'm told they will fit. They came with Nitto Neo Gen 205/40-R17s (not my first choice, but hey, the price was right); not sure what the ride will be like though!
