Brake fluid change?

I have a 2005 honda civic ex special edition I bought used with 60,000 miles on it. There are no maintenance records of the brake fluid ever being changed.
It looks yellow...

What should I do? I would bring it to a honda dealer but I do not know what I should say. I do not want to get ripped off.

Re: Brake fluid change?

well if u are bring it to the dealer, you are going to get ripped of. thats just how it works.

you should just bleed it yourself. its not that hard but you will need the tools and some basic know how. SEARCH is ur best friend.

but if u dont wanna do it, take it to any mech and they will bleed/flush it for you.

Re: Brake fluid change?

should be changed every 3 yrs (not dependent on mileage) with honda brake fluid. if the fluid is clear or light yellow, it may have been done recently. older fluid is usually darker. dealership should charge around $50 for a brake fluid service which is fair.

Re: Brake fluid change?

I bleed my brakes every 3 yrs regardless of mileage due because brake fluid will absorb moisture and that decreases the braking power. I had my brakes done at the dealership a few yrs ago and it cost my $110. A local service station will charge about $75.

Re: Brake fluid change?

Also, only use OEM Honda brake fluid or the seals will leak.
