Planning on getting some 17' rims without lowering.
Planning on getting some 17' rims without lowering.
Hi, Im new to the forums and I am absolutely enjoying my time here. Anyways, heres the deal. I just got my 2002 Canadian Civic Si(ex) and was wondering if anyone has any pics of a non-lowered coupe with 17's that isnt lowered. I havent decided on which rims yet since I dont currently dont have the cash but I've decided on getting 215/45/r17 tires. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

kc8ktq, yours looks alright because you have a body kit which is bigger and sits lower than the stock bumpers, if your getting rims go ahead, but you will probably find your self lowering the car after wards. 17" is a good choice.. thats what i have on mine some Bronze rota grids but im also lowered 2" all around with type R lip kit.. Remember when you lower also get a camber kit and then go and get your alignment done to get camber set properly so you dont run through tires like candy. If you want to know about what springs or suspension set up to go with there are plenty of threads already on this topic... SEARCH... GL man. happy modding.
Re: Planning on getting some 17' rims without lowering.
i currently have stock on mines and plan on getting 215/45/17 without lowering as well. I have a 04 lx. good luck and post pics when you get 'em!
Re: Planning on getting some 17' rims without lowering.
Thanks for all the inputs guys! Really appreciate it. Yeah, maybe I'll just go and save up for some springs, cambers and shocks first. Get her down maybe 2' rear and 1.5' front. Also, any thoughts on these rims? http://www.rotawheels.com/wheels.asp?wheelid=52 Civic's silver btw. Thanks!

Dammnnnn that actually looks pretty good without a drop. Now I'm back to having second thoughts about lowering. How big are your tires if you dont mind me asking? My civic's silver too and it doesnt look like you have any lips or sides on it either. Hm....And yeah those rims are hella sick. Kind of fell inlove withit right away

eh, not my best chop, but you get the idea. I made the rims slightly bigger than the stock ones in the picture.

I originally got 215/45's when I got my first set of tires for my 17's just because it messed with the speedometer the least. That's the size I wanna go back to. I was forced to go with 205/50's for tires to deal with a freak winter I experienced in western WA state. These ******* are eating up my fenderwell linings (.5" larger overall diameter), even after I raised the height on my coilovers..

Re: Planning on getting some 17' rims without lowering.
the 215/45's were the closest to my original tire overall diameter (bigger than my original 185/65-15's by a tenth of an inch).
It'll eat up an extra .55" for you (1.1" overall diameter increase). It'll look like you have fat tires, so you won't have that "ZOMG!!!!11! LOW PROFILE TIREzZZ!" look, but it'll give you a better ride.
I've whored out this picture on these forums a lot to show plenty of people what the tire profile/drop looks like.

This is mine now on Skunk2 1.75" springs and stock struts. I do have a camber kit on it now though. I wasnt sure about the drop till I did it. Now I love it! Cant wait to get some better struts!

Re: Planning on getting some 17' rims without lowering.
you asked earlier about 16's and no drop, well i have a few pictures of mine for ya.
when i first got my 16's and went with 205/45/16's

photoshopped dopped

this is a different tire, this is what im currently running which are 205/55/16's

i dont know if i should keep this tire/wheel setup i have or when these tires wear out upgrade to some black motegi SP10 17's with 215/45/17's
what do you think?

Re: Planning on getting some 17' rims without lowering.
I really like the Hyper black Motegi SP10's but they dont make them in 16's and I dont want to do 17's trying to keep a plusher ride on my DD. I ended up going with 5Zeigen Pro in Hyper they were quite a bit more but the color is so sick.
Re: Planning on getting some 17' rims without lowering.
So just an update on the rims/drop question a month ago. I did go for the rims first. Got some Konig S906 with Achilles 205/40/zr17. All in all I am happy with the purchase. 100 bucks for each rims, 75 bucks for each tires(Canadian.) The car does look like a 4x4 at the moment, but that wont last for long. The place where I got my rims and tires at qouted me 350 for H&R Springs. Installation included. Now I know most of you will say thats a lot, but I dont know how to isntall springs
Either way it'll be low by the end of Sept. I also bought some crystal black headlights and a type r grille from ebay. Ill post pics up once everything's been said and done.

lol well i have 17's and half a car dropped cause the damn bolts in the back wont let go. i am probably gonna have it lowered the rest of the way maybe the weekend after this one. but its lowered 3 inches and i cant get my hands between the tires and the fender.lol but i can still turn with no rubbing.i cant wait to get the back lowered. lol
Re: Planning on getting some 17' rims without lowering.
I ended up going with some Tenzo 17's with 205/45/17 instead of the 16's I am glad that I did, got coilovers on the way to drop it.
