Need a DIY Brake Caliper/Rotor Replacement - 01 Civic EX
Hey people! I'm trying to find a DIY guide for replacing the front brake calipers and rotors on an 01 Civic EX. I can't find my chilton's and I don't want to go buy another one so pleeeeease help! My passenger side caliper is broken and needs to be fixed asap, so the sooner I can get the DIY the better!
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Re: Need a DIY Brake Caliper/Rotor Replacement - 01 Civic EX
First off I will start with the rotors. To change the rotors you will have to jack the front part of your car off the ground and put jack stands under it. Then you take off the tires. Now there are to bolts at the back of the rotor/caliper. Those 2 bolts hold the caliper on the knuckle, take those bolts off and just lay the caliper down. Next you will need a impact screwdriver. There are 2 screws that hold the rotor in place use the impact screwdriver to take the screws out.. Next take a hammer and bang on the middle part of the rotor that ejects out. Bang on the top of that and spin the rotor around and keep doing it till the rotor pops off then just put the new one on and put the caliper back on and do the same to the rest of them.
The caliper is alittle more difficult cause you have to bleed your brake master cylinder. So to replace the caliper there is a little black rubber piece on the end of it. Take that off and just grab a wrench and twist the end of that alittle and do to all of the calipers. It will start dripping out but you will have to get into your car and pump the brakes till no more will come out. NOTE take the cap off the brake master cylinder while doing this. After that you can take the caliper off. Like doing the rotors take the 2 bolts off on the back. Then you will have to take the bolt off the caliper that holds the brake line on. After that put the new caliper on the way you took it off. Here is the part that sometimes takes a while and is a pain. Now you have to fill up the brake lines. So keep the brake bleeder valves still open. Now get some brake fluid and put it in the brake master cylinder. Next get in the car and pump the brake. Go back and refill the cylinder then pump the brake. Keep doing this till there is no air in the lines. Then tighten the bleeder valve and put the rubber piece back on and your done.
