Re: tire size for 17x8
yeah, with those 225s he's gonna rub bad in the rear if he slams it. i put 215 50s on my 17x7s once and they rubbed with my s-techs in the rear....had to put em on the front til i got more tires...

Re: tire size for 17x8
im not saying to go with the 225s, im just showing him that you "can" get wide tires on 17x8s and be lowered
maybe alex.w *// could post just how low he wishes to go, then we could give a more accurate suggestion
i still think that a 215/40 stretched on a 17x8 would be good, however, this is all contingent on the offset of the wheel and how low the car has been lowered

Re: tire size for 17x8
Just to give you an idea.
I had 215/40s (Toyo FZ4s) on a 17x7 +42.
Car was lowered to 1 finger gap all around.
No rolled fenders.
I had to set the camber at about -1.5 on the rears to prevent rubbing.
You should take into consideration negative camber settings and the true width of the tire.
Yeah, 225 won't be exactly be 225 for all brands.

Re: tire size for 17x8
You're not gonna be able to "slam" it on 17x8s without going V-dub stretchy tire style... in which case, I'd say do 205/45 and stretch them on.

ok nevermind, i just went out to read the fine print of my new rims, and it reads 17x7. but when i measured the rims width, it says 8". so i think its a 7" since my current rims are like that which are 16x7.

Re: tire size for 17x7....updated
The width is between the bead seats, not the outer edge of the rim. a 7" rim will be wider than that.

I would go with 205s imo. I'm going to be running 205/40/17 on my rims which are going to be 17 x 7.5 with a 43+ offset. I want my car low...so hopefully with these tires they won't RUB at all
