Well I found a complete set of ep3 brakes for my em2.

They look good enough, but what they look like and what they work like is different. All they gotta do is work.

Rotors rust instantly, they're iron. If they've been off the car for any length of time they will surface rust over. Its easily sanded off, turned off, or will come off the first time you step on the brakes.
Re: Found some EP3 Brakes. What do you guys think?
Hey Boiler, I see some rust on the knucle itself and near where the camber cam connects to the brake. Is that bad?
I know rust on the rotor is ok, but what about rust somewhere else?

^^^ yea he's got a good point. and you shouldnt ever "sand" your brake rotors. machining them is different. rotors will rust actually very quickly if not used and machining them is not a problem. you should find out how thick the rotor should be by OEM specs and wats the bare minimum it can be machined down too...you dont want rotors that have already been machined and eaten up. ill soon have to replace my rotors because i jus machined them down to close the bare minimum. i duno about rust on those knuckle things but u shoudl have that checkd out

Come on, gimme a break. Its all a big iron lump, its gonna rust, look at what you got on the car. Almost everything ferrous will rust except stainless steel. If you want perfection, pay the $1400 and buy em new. They WORK. Make them pretty yourself if it matters that much.
Re: Found some EP3 Brakes. What do you guys think?
I was just concerned, can you blame me? I don't want them to rust through and fall apart on me. How would I go about taking the rust of then sealing it? I know i can sand it, but how do I seal it back up?
I just burnt my tongue

Big fat thick parts are vitually uneffected by rust, it isnt sheet metal. It would take so long to damage that, you'd be giving it to your great great grandson. you want to clean it up and paint it again, whatever, its just going to surface rust over again. You cant stop it.
Sorry to be an ***, but this stuff is just second nature to me, and nothing more than high school chemistry applied to real life. You'll never find used car parts without rust on them.
Iron + water = Iron Oxide AKA rust (and Hydrogen if you wanna get technical). There's no stopping it.

it is completely acceptable on all levels to use 180 grit sand paper to clean the surface of a rotor.

Re: Found some EP3 Brakes. What do you guys think?
I agree. (Not really)
But yeah, Boiler, I found an old thread you made, I think it was a DIY for changing rear brake drums or some **** like that. I was having trouble getting the drums off last night, the Haynes manual I had gave me some complicated procedure that involved using a little access plug on the back of the drums and doing some chopsticks motion with two screwdrivers to retract the pads further. I used your 2x8M bolts idea, and it worked perfectly.
So I'm going to rep you here because I don't want to find that thread again. Thanks.
