Brakes Scratching Sound

Can anyone help me with my brakes. Whenever i drive from a parking there is this scratching sound on my front brakes that only sounds for a few seconds and then disappears. I have brought it in for servicing several times and the mechanic told me that its a normal for ABs to have its Self Test whenever you drive your car. Is this right? Cause this is also my first car with ABS and i have not encountered this with my old car. Hope you could shed light on this issue i've got. TY.

its not "self testing". i actually dont think any cars do that...

i'm pretty sure its your brake pads rubbing off the corrosion/rust from the rotors. the surface of rotors corrode very easily so thats common for you to hear a scraping sound the first time you step on your brakes after parking it.

i get the same thing all the time....I've takin it all apart twice and the only thing I find that makes logical sense is brake dust griding with the pad..

or the brake pad is made of "cheap" material. use some known brand, and u'll notice it goes away

i noticed that too. i used to have a screeching problem with my brakes too. then i changed them to Hawk pads and now they're completely silent.

Brake wear indicators
cold brake pads (some compounds will be noisy until hot)
rotor surface corrosion

I'm sure I could think of more the longer I sat here, but those are the 3 highly likely ones.
ABS doesn't self test by activating itself. Find a new mechanic.
