Tire noise from directional tires?

I discovered on the weekend that one of my tires is mounted backwards and is rotating the wrong way. I've also noticed recently that I appear to be getting a fair bit of tire noise from the rear. Would the tire rotating the wrong way (directional tires) contribute to this noise?

Its possible, but Directional tires are noisier by defalut, and only get louder as the tread wears down on them.
