i think it's cutting close.. offset Q, anyone had experience?

i had another thread asking opinions about the colors for the ultraleggeras that im about to order.
however, i just noticed the offset is 37.. which imo is cutting it VERY close, im afraid it's gonna rub. (as it suggests 37-44 would be fine in the FAQ, but didn't mention about the ride height)
my car is lowered about 2" and im gonna use 215/40/17 tires
any inputs?

you may get away with 205's. id say 215s will require some negative camber unless you roll the rear fenders.

It may fit. I have no idea how much my car is lowered, but I got superleggeras (the predecessor wheels) in there with 215/45s.
Just get the tires mounted and play with it. I bet the alignment can make it work. If not, roll the fenders.

Very true, but I'm from the same area as riced, and ran 205/40/17 for two seasons then 215/35/19 and 215/35/18 last season, no problems at all. 205/40/17 will be just fine for daily driving around the Toronto East area. IMO if you damage a rim on a pothole wearing 205/40/17 you would have damaged it just as easily with 215/40. Ride comfort is another story, but I don't listen to the constant throbbing in my lower back so I'm the wrong guy to take advice from in that department, LOL.

Riced, you can also call a friend of mine, Billy @ Tires23, 905-602-8881 to ask him about offset/spacers for your car. Tell him Will sent you, he'll help you out, even just with advice - although his rim and tire selections are fantabulous.

^ thanks for the heads up, i'll call him tml.

im ordering my rims @ steelcase tires N mags, they have the cheapest price in toronto, everywhere i look. but they are just too busy to answer any questions, can't even reply on my shipment date, not to mention asking them about the offset, spacers, regarding the fact that my car is lowered

seems like they come in 40 offset, but only in silver, which i don't want.. sigh!

IMO half the sales experience is the price, the other half is support. If they can't even answer your questions on when you're getting your stuff and if it'll fit, just imagine what they WON'T do for you if something goes wrong or if you've already installed it and it DOESN'T fit. I don't mind paying the extra bucks at a place I trust. That is why I only go to Tires23 now, their prices are more than reasonable (admittedly not the CHEAPEST in Ontario but cheaper than 90& of other guys selling same product) but Billy has come through time and again with every one of my problems, and on the rare occasion I've called and not gotten him right away, I leave a VM and he's usually calling me back within a couple of hours - always same day. You would do well to consider customer service before you drop moola on the cheapest deal you find. I did that with another shop and they screwed me out of 800 bucks on a suspension. Good luck dude.

ps why not try to find your desired wheels used in silver 40 offset then refinish them yourself? It's not that hard to paint rims yourself and done properly they can look as good as off-the-shelf finishes, with only a minor hit in durability.

^ i called billy today and he suggested that they'll fit no problem, with no rubbing issues even im lowered 2" (he even suggested 215/45/17 tires!). he seems very confident too. but still, it seems weird, our oem offset is 45 for 15x6, and the new rims are 37 17x7

i thought of getting a set of used wheels and custom paint them to my desired color. but too bad the only wheels i like are the ultra/super-leggera, work CR kai. im pretty **** about rims, i want them to look nice (to my taste) and light weight (around 17lbs for 17"), which i don't find much other than these two.

can't find any used for these two, but i found a pretty scratched up used superleggera for 900 from a cocky seller (new is 1200 lol)

See standard answer thread.
did you roll ur fenders or play with the alignment / camber to make it fit?
or did you snap it on with 0 camber?

Boilermaker1, just incase you didn't see it, coz im waiting for your reply, just curious, did you roll ur fenders or play with the alignment / camber to make it fit? or did you snap it on with 0 camber?
i ordered it today, love the rims too much , i'll try to make'em fit, since urs (superleggeras) has 35 offset, which is even smaller than mine (ultraleggeras) with 37 offset, i guess it's worth to give it a try

I highly doubt 215/45/17 would work with a +37 offset. You could probably get away with it, by adding negative camber. I recently just got my rims and tires from tires23. My rims are +42 offset, and I have 205/45/17, and they rubbed when I first got them. They only rubbed in the rear, and it only rubbed slightly. I just needed a couple of more mm's to clear the rear fenders. If I had a +45 offset, it probably would have cleared no problems. I went to my alignment shop the other day, and now I have negative 2 camber on both sides to make my wheels not rub. I really think 215/45/17 would rub. If you want to be safe, go with 205/40/17. The only reason I didn't go for that size, I didn't want wheel gap. As my car stands now, the fronts have about 1.5 finger gap in the front, and .5 finger gap to none (flush, not tucking) in rear.

If you want a similar rim to the work emotions, have you considered the rota torques?? IMO they look pratically the same, and they weigh about 18lbs for the 17 inch ones.

btw, Billy from tires23 told me to get 215/45/17, but I told him that they would probably rub, and I told him to give me 205/45/17. He didn't think 215/45/17 would rub, but my 205's rub, don't you think 215/45 would rub as well because its wider.

Anyways, the only way to find out if it will rub is by trying them on, but I'm pretty confident that 215/45 will rub, unless you roll your fenders, or add negative camber.

^ hey there, thanks for the input. im not going to put 215/45/17 on there, some people rub, some people don't. im gonna put 205/40/17 on there and try it out, if it rubs even with this relatively small size, then all i can do is to roll the fenders, which i assume will cost me a **** load (considering there's a high chance for a new paint job)

i ordered the rims today, so i can't go back lol
but sorta re-thinking on the color.. gun-metal should look nicer, but im afraid it makes my car dull, plus the rims won't stand out form the black body color.
anyways... can't look back

Hey riced, Tires23 can roll your fenders (remember EL-Driver's post on ClubEL?). Not that expensive.

^ thx, i just checked out his thread, and infact, i just called tires23 today, and the guy told me it's 50bux per corner, so $200 for the job. im not sure if this is a good price, but atleast i know tires23 has a good reputation. so if i need to roll my fenders, it'll be tires23.

200 is actually quite expensive to me at this moment.. coz i just got my rims, and need to get new tires (planning to get the general exclaim UHP).. sigh! tight budget, care to give me a loan? hehe

Screw that, I've got my own problems with my car. You're saving buckets of cash with the UHP's...I say mount the rims and rubber and if they rub take them off and put your old ones on until you can come up with the loot for fender rolling.

That's the Honda-Tech meet, not the BBQ. Look for Hybrid's "****-off-the-neighbours" meet. I'm trying to convince him to rent a PA system that way I can bring my turntables and really wake up the block.
