Tire Upgrade

Hey ya'll. I got a Civic LX 2002. I would like to upgrade or upsize my tires. They're 14-inchers. But I was wondering if it would be better to get a 195/65/14 or a 195/60/14 in order for better performance. My tires are originally 185/70/14. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

performance, not our cars, Get some nice 15s or 16s wheels and get some 205/50 tires on them =) I guess you can say you will get better performance out of that

Ok... The 195/60-14'shave almost the exact overall diamiter as stock... so the only real performance difference would be the wider contact patch.

the 195/60-14's are 4.1% shorter then stock... meaning you now have 4.1% shorter gearing = better acceleration at the cost of top speed... It also means that your speedometer will read 4.1% faster then you are actually going... Meaning when your spedo reads 60mph, you are actually traveling at 57.6MPH.

So, performance wise your better off with the "short" tires, but it comes at a cost.

So is it better to get the 195/65/14 or 195/60/14. I like the acceleration part...but I guess you're right. Top speed may be reduced.

When is the last time you came any where near your cars top speed?

any way, I race on 205/50-15's, My street tires are 215/45-17... Stock was a 185/65-15

So that means, When I race My tires are 5.7% shorter... Giving me much better gearing for track use (better acceleration, plus they lower the car a good half inch more). on the street the 17's are .6% larger then stock.... So, you have a delema here. do you want to go faster? (with the down side of having your speedometer read wrong, rack up miles quicker and generally get less gas mileage, all in the name of performance) or do you want to keep the cars current "peformance" aside from having a wider contact patch (better cornering)

Agreed

I'd agree with the 195/65/14 or 195/60/14
