MMC Brakes

Just killing time at work on Wikipedia, stumbled upon this wiki article on metal matrix composites. The part that kind of caught my eye was the 3M MMC brake insert with increased stiffness and decreased weight. I was wondering if anyone had any experience w. these, or has heard anything about them. Those would be the $26000 carbon composite brakes on Ferrari Enzos and Carrera GTs.
Price is not a typo... they're really $5K per rotor.
