you know, I have the same exact problem. I have about 45% pad material left and the rotors are good, but stopping they grind and shift around. From what I know and have been told, the pads tend to shift around causing this. Lately it has been happening alot for me, so I will just hit the brakes hard several times to make it go away.

that has nothing to do with it. That wont prevent grinding noises.

Brakes unfortunately make noise by design. Squeeks and even sometimes a faint grinding sound can be heard do to .... tempature outside, humidity, dust, driving habbits, driving conditions........................................ .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ................. , and when the moons of jupiter align just right. Getting rid of these noises can be difficult if not impossible.

It could also be the shims(small metal bracket). Maybe it slip or moved ever so slightly to cause contact with the rotor. just trying to help out.

If you mean the shims behind the pad thats what i was thinking hence why i said to put the grease on. When my friend put his new pads in they made horrible noises before he greased the back, but streetglower is probably right

so when i went to the dealership and had them look at my brakes i had one brake pad that was pretty worn down and the others where perfectly fine and they told me ther was no problem with them wearing and everything was working fine
i would think that if they were fine wouldnt all the pads wear evenly
3 pads good 1 pad bad that doesnt sound right not even wearing

which pad was the worn down pad? the one closest to the piston or the inner one? Sounds like your caliper is sticking.

Yup, either sticking caliper or sticking caliper slides.

well usually that means one of the calipers is sticking. Usually it is caused by dirt and what not. I would go somewhere else and get a second opinion.
