Has this ever happened to your Falken tires?

I was doing about 65 mph on the hway when this happened. I really have no clue how it actually happened, but it did...the whole tire almost came off the wheel, notice the 2 big cuts on both sides...but the good thing is that it protected the wheel all the way till I stopped the car...what a tire, I'm glad I was riding on Falkens and not some other sheap ****...time for some new Azenis...

did you put them on recently after having them stored? maybe the tire dried out on the corner. or maybe you have some rubbing going on. or maybe overinflated? thats weird that the slashes are on opposite sides of eachother.

I really don't know how it happened guys. I'm just crusing on the hway and all of the sudden I felt this bumpy noise on the rear. I'm just appreciated and lucky to still have that wheel intact. The tires came with the rims when I bought them, but they were kinda worn out already.
Might as well just change them all to be even all around. I need all season tires since it rains a lot in Miami, would you guys recommend these Falken GRS again?
I was thinking about the new Azenis RTs, but I'm concern about the rain like I said...

I actually had that happen on a Michelin Pilot Sport (and most people know the quality of that tire). When I took it to get it replaced (as all I knew was that I had a flat) they said that it must have gotten a small puncture on the side wall and slowly leak air out. With that happeneing, the new pressure put on the interior sidewall caused it to slowly tear as treaded on the street.

^^Damn , that's fvcked up....it sucks when you lose a tire like that, specially when they have been used for a while...if it was just a flat, no biggie, but this type of crap really unevens the rubbers...

I was wondering on that too, how many flats can these tires hold approximately before having to get rid of it?

Maybe a Defect! That or Camber Wear and/or Underinflation. I work at a wheel & tire shop and have seen many cases of the same if not worse (were the tread came completely off) because the tire went flat; person never relized it while driving and the above will happen after so long being flat.

It looks like you had no tread left on the tire.

Did u have camber wear?? if so, that's probably the cause. It was probably riding on an angle, and the tire probably went down to the belts on the tire. Once you see the belts, the tires will start falling apart.

I don't think this was due to the tire, I think this was due to your carelessness. You shouldn't be riding on tires with that low of a tread.

If you ask me, you deserved what you got. I'm not trying to be rude. I just hate seeing people being cheap, and not buying new tires before they have too.

Tires were probably good, just change them at the appropriate tread depth. Once a tire hits 2/32nds you should change them. I change my tire at 4/32nds.

It could have been that too Phuviano. I will install my stock tires till I get some new rubbers.
I've been searching on websites like Tirerack and 1010tires but I'm undecided on what new tires to get. I wanted to stick w/ Falkens, but I'd like to increase the middle number to fill in the gap a little more since they looks awfully small on my car now, but Falken doesn't produce those numbers.
My wheels are 16x7 andt the tires are 215/40/16...would it be ok if I increased the 1st and middle numbers to 225?/50 or 55??

Out of all the missleading information above, danscreations is the MOST correct! It's VERY common for this to happen with people with low profile tires. The tire is ran low on air pressure for whatever reason and causes the side wall of the tire to basically wear thru. Been there done that! This is NOT cuased directley from any wheel alignment angles being out of spec.

I'm looking for all season tires, but mainly for wet & dry conditions. the Falken GRB are great, but I think I'm ready to try something like a Cooper ZPT or maybe Dunlop Direzza...the selection is big out there, I just gotta select the best bang for the buck.
