Taking rims off tires...how much?

How much would it be to take off rims off tires to switch to another set of tires?
I called costco and they said it was going to be $40 smackers, is there any places cheaper like pepboys or etc. ? Thanks

I got Tire Barn to pull them off for 1/2 the price of mounting and balancing. $25 was what I think I paid for it. Tell them you need to have the rims pulled, then you're going to be refinishing them and bringing them back to have tires remounted. 1/2 now, 1/2 later.

At one local tire shop, I paid $10 per tire, to dismount a tire, mount another tire, and balance the new tire.

At another place, I paid the same $10 per tire, with $1.40 per new valve stem.

The new rim clamp machine we just purchased set us back about $4500. It won't scratch wheels, and handles up to 22" rims. We charge $10 for mt/dismt for most wheels, $12.50 per wheel to balance. Some think that auto/tire shops are ripping you off, but, at least in Cali, we have some of the most insane overheads. Workers comp, all that stuff, really adds up.

so you charge 22.50 per wheel for mounted and balanced? usually you can atleast get the balancing included with the dismount/mount. I know there's a lot of heafty things you have to pay(as with any other company) but to me having to pay an extra $40 to get tires put on seems a little much.
