Why'd honda make discs an option?
Why'd honda make discs an option?
Is anyone else here stuck with rear drum brakes? With so many other manufacturers offering 4-wheel disc brakes standard, why would honda skimp on these? Anyway, I want to get some bigger rims, but I'm scared that the rims will just overwhelm the brakes in the rear...Has anyone heard of a rear brake kit for the 7th gens? Is there anything else we can do?

If you search a little, I think there is a DIY for the Civic Si rear brakes to the coupe and sedan. If there isn't a DYI, I know it has been done, some members here have it.

umm rear disks arent an option on a civic.. they are only availible on the civic si or acura el
and yes, those rear disks from those cars WILL bolt to the civic
im not exactly sure what is invovled, but i know the jist
you will need
rotors, calipers, rear knuckles, brake hoses, ebrake cables, hub assemblies for sure
altho if you want the oem look, you are gonna wanna get the dust cover and everything
last time i checked the price, it was roughly $800 NEW from the dealer

Theres no reason for them anyway. Such a significant portion of the braking is done with the fronts anyways, there's no need for much in the rears.
Honda doesn't care what your set of 22's looks like with their drum brakes.

Just because you have bigger rims, doesn't mean that your car needs to stop better. Bigger/better brakes are for heavier cars. As the car gets heavier, the better the stopping power it needs. You don't need disks, nor will it probably help.

yea I've heard that many times that the rear brakes dont do much.. I'd love to have em just for looks w/ aftermarket rims, but dont wanna spend the $, I think I might paint the calipers/drums black.. flat black or something that hides them a bit, and if u do see them they wont look as ugly..

The simple reason is that the Civic doesn't need them. They put standard ABS on some models, which stops better than disc's without ABS on other cars.

ABS brakes dont make a car stop faster. ABS brakes make it so you can steer the car when in a panic stop when normally the brakes would skid hence the tire is nolonger rotating and therfore you cant steer a tire that isnt rotating

And as far as those who dont think rear disc brakes wouldnt help i beg to differ, specially with some of the POS wheels that people are putting on thier cars like 18's that that weigh +20lbs

all in all in a srtaight line the drums stop faster than si rear discs look at the 60-0 facts for both cars... only problem w/ drums are that w/ extreme use as in autoX they start to fade alot quicker than a caliper/rotor setup would... i have 19's and i dont mind my drums the only problem is i have to change the shoes occasionally. dont worry about it bud.. just leave em alone..only reason id ever swap em is to upgrade to a 2 piston rear setup but i dont see that anytime soon for myself

could, but highly unlikely with the weight of our car and speed
70-75% of braking is done by the front, so
