Changing Tires Opinions
I'm looking to buy some new tire on all fours. Right now on my spoon sports sw388's I have Kumho Mx in front 205-50-15 and avs es 100 in the back. A shop that I use to deal with said he can hook me up w/ a set of Hankook K104 which seem to be the choice of most track cars (comparing in the echo cup series he was pulling 1.28 lap time while cars w/ p-zeros were 1.31~, drivers are comparable). So i'm thinking of getting those but he also said hankook will be releasing a tire called the azenis killer so I might just wait for that. I was just wondering if anyone has opinions on the Hankook K104's. I'm looking for something sticky for all 4 tires for a bit of auto-x but mostly street and some drag but also want decent tread in rain (why i'm looking at k104s instead of azenis).

Vs which P-Zero?
the Corsa? Nero? Rosso Asimmetrico? Rosso Dirzionale? The System Asimmetrico? or The Mero M&S?
as far as Hankook being the track tire of choice?? Not that I've ever heard. Most people I konw that run track days regularly use DOT Street legal R compound tires, rather then just a High Performance tire.
Dont get me wrong, Hankook makes some good tires, Infact The Ventus Z211 is the Spec tire for NASA's Spec Miata class.
THe K104 may be a very good tire, and if the price is right.. GO for it.
and Regarding the tire that Hankook is suppose to be coming out with to compete with the Kumho MX and the Falken Azenis RT-215 .... who knows... All I know is that falken is dropping the Azenis RT-215 and replacing it with the RT-615 in wider sizes... (225/50-15!!!!)

The pirelli were p-zero nero's. They are in an Echo Cup class no R compounds allowed (on their beatle cup car they run RA-1s when allowed). He's giving them (k104) to me for 120$/CAD a tire. Zzyzx I highly respect your opinion what would be your top tires in this price range/class.

$120 for something thats not going to be much if at all better then the MX's you have on the car.... when you can get 205/50-15 Kumho MX's for about $70-80. But then you'r looking for some thing with decent wet traction.... so, they may be worth the $$ as they should be able to handle rain fine. Its tough making the decision, when I've never ran the tire my self...
Lets look at the stats...
UTQG: 280/AA/A not bad, definitly a performance tire (Having a tread wear under 300) But givin that, your MX's should be able to run circles around them while on track.. but they look like they would handle rain much better. its a trade off, do you want maximum dry grip and OK wet grip, or Decent dry and Decent wet grip ?
I think the V4ES H105 would be a better match up to the dry performace of the MX, but then they dont come in 15"
