Scary vibration when braking...

I searched for my problem before posting but to no avail...

I recently bought a used 2K1 4dr Civic LX-G, with the 5-speed. Every time I'm on the Highway in 5th gear, or even in town in 4th and have to break hard, the whole car shakes (steering wheel, dash, cowl). The brakes are new only 500km on them. I have put it in Neutral and it still does it, just not every time. Do I have a major problem with my suspension/brakes?
There is no vibration at cruising speeds, only under breaking. any help would be great.

Your brakes are done. Rotors are warped so badly they can't be turned.

sounds like Runout. Warping a rotor is suprisingly Rare Runout is MUCH more common, and it has simmilar symptoms. Take them to a shop and get them Turned (Machined) if they can then you'll be golden, if not then get new rotors.

If warped rotors are the culprit, then wouldn't there be vibration at all braking speeds? and with every pedal depression?

i think it could be warped rotors.....go get them checked....my car shook when i braked and my rotors were totally warped....you can get them resurfaced its pretty cheap...but some advice not to get them warped if it is warped and you get it fixed...don't SLAM on your breaks...also when washing your car...if you've been driving awhile let ur car cool a bit so you don't put cold water or room temp water on REALLY HOT brakes and rotors from driving
