Question about Brake Dust on Wheels?

I have stock hubcaps and I have Hawk HPS pads and I have noticed that on my passanger side hubcap, there is alot more dust than the drivers side hubcap, anyone know why? I checked the brakes about a week ago and both are wearing evenly, and both still have alot of pad in them, and the rotors are both looking the same. It isnt a big deal, just would like to know why this happens.

It could be lots of things... the way the holes in the steelies are oriented with respect to the hubcap spokes, the way the wind blows, who knows...
as long as they're even side to side, it doesn't matter. Mine make an equal dust storm on both sides... consider yourself lucky you only need to scrub one wheel.

Well cleaning it isnt a problem, it isnt much, but noticeable. Just wondering what it was due to. But thanks for the response.

The hawk pads dont produce that much dust. When I had EBC greenstuff, those had heavy amounts of dust. These are better IMO then ebc, I just have the problem with having more dust on one wheel then the other.

More dust usually indicates more wear, your caliper on that side may be hanging slightly. You would have to measure the pads with a micrometer to tell! Also I have run across a "soft" pad now and then.

Well I thought the same thing, but last week I checked the brakes in the front and both were wearing evenly. Both pads still have alot of thinkness left, but just one tire gets more dust then the other. Besides I had my calipers rebuilt about 12k miles ago.

As I said, measure the pads with a mic.! You can't tell by eye. Also rebuilding calipers is an art most people don't have. I just buy rebuilts and hope for the best! lol

The pads are the same. trust me, measuring might prove they are different by like millionths of an inch, but they are still wearing evenly. you can look and they look the same on both sides. Also any shop can rebuild calipers, most stock caliper rebuild kits. I go to brake check here and they do it just fine. I havent had any problems yet. All it is, is replacing the crap around the piston.

Also why buy rebuilt calipers, when rebuilding them cost like $25 a caliper.

It makes the calipers work like new. Rebuilding them, you are replacing the crap around the piston so they can fully function. Its the seals and what not in the pistons.

You win! Your rebuilt calipers are good and your pads are wearing evenly! The dust must be comming from the car next to you!!

All I am saying is you dont need to measure your pads to see if they are wearing evenly. You can perfectly tell by looking at them. Measuring them might say there is a tiny bit of difference, but maybe off by like millionths of an inch. Besides, even if the pads were wearing unevenly, I would just get them rebuilt again. I am hard on my brakes, thats why I had to get them rebuilt before. The calipers seized on me.]

Besides, not even brake shops do that. They just look at the pads and will say the same thing. They will tell you if you need to rebuild your calipers or not.
