Squeaking Brakes

Just wanted to get some opinions on why my brakes could be squeaking. I recently changed the front breaks like 3 weeks ago and had to replace one of the rotors cuz it was messed up. Now it doesnt squeak or anythign when im braking at a light or something but when im going real slow and slowly breakign it starts to have a real high pitched squeak. i have taken the break apart and cleaned it just incase maybe some breakdust got in somewhere where it wasnt supposed to be. the sound is only coming from the side of where i replaced the rotor so could it possibly be the rotor and the new brake pads causing the noise? i might install the old rotor just to see if it still makes the noise. any help would be very appreciated.

You should of replaced both rotors at the same time, not just one. Also brakes squeak, do you have OEM pads?

Brake rotors dont need to be replaced in pairs . As for squeeks under light braking the pad material can be a HUGE aprt of brake squeeks. If the caliper isnt operating properly it too can be a part of brake noise. Rotor runout can also be a factor as well as humidity and tempature changes. Hell, it seems like even certain days cause them to make noise Did you clean the new rotor off with ALOT of soapy water or LOTs of brake clean? Was it a good quality brake rotor?

I agree OEM is the way to go for brakes. Cheap people always pay twice.

You should have checked the rotors for runout and/or had them turned prior to installing new pads. Brake dust squeal is relatively soft. However, runout and vibration related squeal is much louder and can't be fixed by simply using brake clean.

It can if the noise is caused because he didnt clean the rotors off prior to installing them. But since they are installed and werent cleaned the best thing that could be done would be to clean the brake pads by placing some 120 ish grit sand paper on a flat surface and sanding the material a little then cleaning them with brake clean. As far as noise from the pads them self, they most likely WILL make noise under braking more common on light pedal pressure do to them being a performace brake pad they are made to STOP the car not be quite! My AEM pads make noise under lite pedal pressure this is a common thing with any performance brake pad its the sacrifice you make to stop FAST! As for the runout statement that is correct and the brake rotors should be indexed to minimal runout when installed , or surfaced on the car to achieve a "zero" runout when an on the car lathe is available.

Squeeking is caused from vibration of the material against the rotor. So you need to look for things that may cause the pad to not be held firmly in the caliper braket. Look at the spring clips that the pads ride on, are the pads lose fit? is there shinny places on the back of the pads where the the caliper pushes on the pad and looks like it has worn thru the paint? If so this is a sign that the pads are vibrating and may be the cause of the noise. If so try new spring clips for the pads, and apply SMALL amounts of caliper grease on the backs of the pads where the pad contacts the caliper. Also pull the caliper mounting pins out inspect for wear clean/replace and lube as needed. As a nice little trick ive used to help break in the brake pads is a compound called water based valve lapping compound. You can find it it most auto parts stores. Clean the pad with brake clean, then apply the compound to the material liberal amount put the pads on and take it for a drive it will make a grinding sound for the first few stops then alot of time will cure the brake noise. NOTE: **** make sure to use water based compound, NOT oil based!!!!!!!! ****

Did you install Bendix Pads by any chance?. If so, Bendix will replace these known squealing defective pads free of charge.

thats when i get squeaks too. BUT when i clean the wheels and wash the car it goes away. someone told me to shave the pads on the corners so its not completely flat when the pad hits the rotor...is this good?

Sometimes that can help...........Brake squeeks are the worst thing to cure sometimes
