Rims questions?
Rims questions?
I had a couple of questions about rims. I was just wondering what happens to ride quality as you:
a.) increase or decrease the size of the rim
b.) increase or decrease the weight of the rim
c.) increase or decrease the thinness or wideness of the tire
I'm not looking for much of a performance gain - just seeing which size rim and tire would give me the best ride quality and perhaps better handling. I'm looking to put 16s on my vic for now and don't plan on anything bigger but I just wanted to know what happens with these variables.
I'm a noob so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Increase size, ride goes worse
Increase weight car gets slower
Increase width car handles better.
They're all tied together.

With 16" wheels your ride wont suffer much as long as you put on some decent comfortable tires. It's when you put on some low profile tires that the ride quality starts to suffer some. This is usually the case, but not always the rule.
I found that with my H rated tires that they provide a nice comfy ride over my previously owned Z rated tires in the same 205/40/17 size.

If you want quality in your ride, stay stock. If you are looking into performance and quality dont go higher than a 17" wheel. Play around with the tire calculator. Put in different sizes and widths for tires. The higher sidewall you have, the more comforable the ride will be. I have 17" RH Evo CPS w/ 205/40/17 neogen tires. The speedo is off because of the smaller than stock size. When these tires wear out, I'm going to be getting 215/45/17 neogens. The 40's look good with the smaller sidewall, but the ride is worse than a 45.
